I intend to try and keep up with Lionel and SAAZ for this ride from Canberra.
I might even continue on over to Kalgoorlie to visit a niece and then possible to Monkey Mia, Jurien Bay etc . .

Good luck with that........lol
We haven't committed to this one as yet though I have marked it on the calendar as a possible.

Snap. I also have a niece in Kalgoorlie. :think1

Hmm, what is she like and how old :think1

I hope SAAZ has told you the entry requirements for WA at the border post :whistle
Might be a fee required :grin
I like red :beer so does Yorkie I am told
:wht11

The WA contingent would look forward to catching up with you STroppy, might even allow you to accompany us on our return journey if you are well behaved.

That all sounds good, happy to pay entry fee, I'm rather partial to a nice red, I'll pop a bottle or three in with the socks . .
Just had dinner with my Kalgoorlie niece (shiz in Adelaide visiting) and lined up my accommodation after the Border run. This will be my third trip across the plains . .
Oh sorry rarely well behaved . .

"The WA contingent would look forward to catching up with you STroppy, might even allow you to accompany us on our return journey if you are well behaved."
Does that mean STroppy and I can't swap nieces in Kalgoorlie? WOW:
-
Depends on how many reds they've had . . . :whistle
-
This year is 40th anniversary of border run. Pleased to have you over STroppy. Will be good to see Saaz again and looking forward to meeting Lionel and Alan (if you make it over).
-
I plan on doing the Border Run this year as an FR12. It will be my first FarRide, and I'm able to do it as an FR12 having completed an IBA1600k.

This one is looking like a no go for us......Heather has a date with a bone doc in Adelaide on the 27th July. The doc that did her knee replacement had a look at broken her leg x rays and said he'd remove the screws etc. if that's what Heather wanted. We're going for a 2nd opinion at the RAH (Adelaide Hospital) to see what the people who put the rod etc. in her think about it.
Also we have to spend money and get a new TV. Our current one has lost the wide screen circuit and defaulted back to the old 4:3 screen format. It's seven years old and not much point in fixing it. Not that there's that much to watch on TV anyway.
-
As of today we have to pull out of this. This time it's me.....I need to see a Urologist on the 24th and he's at Port Augusta.
So it means Balranald might be more doable for us as it was one or the other but not both.
-
Not good to hear Allan, But always another ride ....
:wht11 :wht11 :wht11
-
Registrations are now open for BR15. I've registered for a FR12 Gold. Bring it on......... :thumb
-
I'll be there. Will register shortly.
-
Registered. See you there Pete.
-
Unfortunately I have to pull the pin on this, spent last week in hospital with gall stones and have to get my gall bladder removed in 6 weeks which coincides with BR
-
And you wont feel mutch like walking for a while, let alone riding... :)
I know this, as mine was removed about 21 yrs ago.... Also no sneezing coughing laughing piucking up anything heavier than a coffee cup (or kids jumping into your lap)
-

That's a tough break Yorkie, as I was looking forward to catching up with you. I trust the surgery goes well, and I'm sure we will be having more fun than you will be.
-

Buggara......Cholecystitis followed by Diverticulitis are the most common diseases of our day :o
Not something the cave man needed to worry about with his diet......except he was part of the food chain :whistle
Hope your back on deck soon Yorkie......at least you will only have 3 little scars to show for your troubles in days of old you got yourself a scar a foot long :Stirpot
-
I will be keeping on going west so may call in to say hello if you are up to it

As of today we have to pull out of this.
We still want to do this.......trying to work it so we can. Will know this time next week. Will try as a FarRide for Heather as well.
-
Excellent ... Great to hear.

It's on for us. Booked overnight at Kimba Motel for the Friday night. Rough plan is to get fuel docket at 3:30pm from local servo. Top Up at Port Augusta and aim for Kimba for 7-7:30 pm (about 286km). Leave Kimba 6-6:30 am Sat morning and fuel top ups at Wudinna, Nundroo and ETA 3:00 pm arrival at Border Villiage. http://goo.gl/maps/8VG9r (http://goo.gl/maps/8VG9r)
-
Will see you there. All you need for this one i think is a start docket. May not even need that but don't quote me.
-
A start docket is not required for Border Run, you only have to check in during the 4 hour window.
-
Just keep a track of distance achieved in a 24 hour period either going to or from the border run. The distance does not have to be within the 24 hours of the check in time. makes it more like an IBA 1000 or 1200 km run.
See you and Heather there then Alan. A few of us will be there Friday and Saturday nights
-

When does that 4 hour window start/end as it only says 4 pm on the ride page? No fuel docket makes it a little easier though I get them anyway.
-
Midday to 4pm
-
For all of the easterners going to the border can you record fuel prices etc which will help others for the NR2016
Will see you there.
By the way Hoffy and I (and maybe Pezzz) will be going to Esperance on the return journey if anyone is interested. Accomodation will be sorted on the fly.
Cheers

With the time window supplied by Pezzz we've modified our ride plan a little. We can now leave home around midday and make Ceduna (600 km) for the night (have until midnight to check in). We need to be back home Sunday evening so I booked two nights at Ceduna (cancelled Kimba) so we can get back there anytime Saturday evening/night. Gives us a more leisurely trip back on the Sunday. It's only about 5 hours from Ceduna to the Border so we should make it by midday. Now to register.
-

Confirmation page says I need a start docket for the beginning of the 24 hour period.
Both Heather and I are registered.
-
We have never needed a start docket, only need to do 24hr Km for completion. Check in time is Central standard time.

All here......
-
I think that is generic registration message but better to get one to be safe. I didn't need to show one last year but better safe than sorry.
-
As they say, its better to have something and not needed than to not have it and need it.
Bit hard to dash back to the start yesterday.. (Unless you use the Tardis)
;-*
Says he who will be nice and warm in bed.
-
PEZZZ, you didn't need a start docket as you never planned to finish your run last year.
Lets see, ticket to the police ball, super headed motor, large skippies in the middle of the road and finally, low blood temp (-0 degree).
Why would you need a start docket mmmmm?
-

I always get receipts for bike/car expenses for the respective digital log book anyway so not a big drama.

Well ..... you know ... Boy scout and all .. Be prepared .... i was .. just not for any of those things .
Still completed the ride though :-)
And will do again in 3 weeks :-P
-
What 3 weeks???? i had better do the oil change, clean some of the bugs off from the last BR, remove all the debris off the seat and sweep out the cobwebs on the dash.
So much to do and so little time.
-
Might be about time to finalise a rough plan :think1

hahahaahhaa ... Yorkie is loaning me his seat to try for the Border Run as well. If you want to try the Corbin, you are more than welcome. would probably suit your long legs better.

I will get in touch a bit later next week and make some plans.

Do you have my mobile number? If not, pm me or ask Bill.
-
PEZZZ, Just re-read your message, yes I have your number. Disregard the PM.

Both Heather and I are registered.
Correct Allan.
As is always the case with any FR the intention is to aim for the time window. This occasion is just a wider time window.
Tis a very loose FR from the norm. If your eligable to register for a 1200k ride its a good one to do that on, particularly for east coasters.
-
Since this is my first FarRide, which I'm eligible to do as an FR12 Gold, I don't want to mess up times at the end. I plan on leaving home at around 1600hrs on Friday, with a stopover at Port Augusta for a sleep. I am assuming that I can complete the ride before the 1600hrs log-in, so long as I have the FR12 Gold Log completed, and a finish fuel docket from the Border Village servo showing my completion time inside 24 hours from my start docket.
-
Sounds fine .
Pete I did an FR1200gold in 2012 to the Border Run.
Start location was Barraba Thursday morning and the FR1200gold was finished at Yunta Thursday evening as there was not an early start time. Only a requirement to do 1200km within 24 hrs and document it.
On that trip we lobbed into BV Friday night which was great. Did a 700km day bimble into WA and back to BV for the afternoon Saturday.
Simply within a 24 time window of the start docket is all that's required for the BR
Remember the check-in window is local time of destination.
BV has its own time zone.
-
Thanks Gatey. Login time is scheduled as 1600 Aust Central Standard Time, which is normal SA time, so I can run SA time for the whole trip.
-
One day I'll do Border Run.
-
Next Friday I will :-)
-
Good luck and safe riding to all participants, I just wish that I was young and fit enough to be there with you all.
Cheers to all, Winston66,
Northampton
-
You have to do at at least once, but from Queensland a bit far to go. I think this is my fifth, three on the ST1100 and second on the Trophy
One day I'll do Border Run.
-
When we go next week it'll be the first time I've gone to the border and returned. Usually I just stop for the inspection and head off to places further west.
Fork seals etc. done earlier in the day so thinking bike is ready for the border but just after I left the dealer I noticed nail or something had punctured the rear tyre (about 20 mm in from side wall). Probably picked it up on a RH bend So had to take bike back to dealer. Rang Heather to come over and pick me as I couldn't get home. Bike is in shop until Friday and a new tyre fitted then. So, two new tyres for the Border run.
-
I have two new tyres on, new front brake pads, it is raining so first scrub in time is on Tuesday when leaving for the Border. Always seems to work out this way.

Just packed up ready to go Tuesday morning. Looks like a cold start, possibility of rain, at least for this week. Bring on further North! as I have packed shorts and thongs
I will see some of you at the Border, and a few others on the way around. My basic goal points and dates are here http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=9645.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=9645.0) but I will have a better idea of more exact dates a week out from them, as I have places in between and allocated time in those places that may be shorter or longer.
-
Wishing all and sundry a safe and enjoyable run. I am jealous.
-
What Yorkie said.
-
I may be pulling out at the last minute. I applied for work on last Thursday and went for an interview this morning. Felt like I was riding in a freezer when I left for Adelaide at 6 AM in the dark, fog and frost.
Short story is that the labour hire consultant thinks I'm the best of the ones he's seen so half the battle is over; whether the company I might be working for agrees is another matter. Until I get a phone call saying to start work I'm all set for the ride.
-
This will be my fourth border run in a row, two on the ST. Well worth thinking about at least once. Usually I have had to rush back to do other things, so I think this will be the most memorable - I hope for the right reasons!

E-mail from Clint
Hi All
Bit of a throwback to regular FarRides in that a start docket within 24hrs of checkin is required for those rides. This showed up in your Welcome email.
To clarify, the Border Run is more relaxed and no Start Docket is necessary. You just need to checkin between lunchtime and 16:00 local time.
You will also need to affirm that you have done at least the FarRide distance/time you registered for, on the way there or home again.
Apologies for the mixup – specially to Peter who is now getting lots of messages.
Cheers
Clint

All set for us to head off for tomorrow. Rechecked tyres after the one fitted last week and found rear at 36 psi (same as front) so glad I checked them plus the trailer ones. Weren't going to take the trailer but need to take the bedding for our 2 night stay in Ceduna and it can stay in Ceduna for the last 480 Km.

I have the waterproof camera in a plastic bag, anyone got the waterproof flag for the photo shoot?????

It's not the forecast that I was hoping for, for my first FarRide. :fp
-
Lol ..... such is life. I hate the rain but not letting it stop me do this once a year.
-
It's not the forecast that I was hoping for, for my first FarRide. :fp
Been changed to a possible thunderstorm for Friday and Saturday......one way for the weather people to get it right.....either way they win......lol

-
Could do without the rain but have done it before and I say to myself, "I have a shower each night so this is no different, just a bit cooler."
The bit that worries me is that sometimes I am the tallest thing on the road and they have forcast lightnun an rumblin.
-
Safe riding Wombat and Pezz. Switchback does not go out the shed in the rain. :popcorn
-
Lol .... fairy nuff ... see ya when we get back on a rte in fine weather. Preferably one with straight roads for you ... :nahnah
-
We are at border village, great weather but all reports are lots of rain out west.
-
Yes. We have had every article of clothing absolutely drenched. Trying to dry out in Balladonia right now. Air cons on heat full throttle. See you tomorrow.
-
Thunder and lightning here now, heavy rain. Hope it clears tomorrow
-
Steady rain at BV. But it is not showing up on the weather radar.
-
Light rain . . Sunny in between spots . . . Could clear later in the day . . .
-
Leaving border village tomorrow to head west, likely with the WA crew from Eucla on. I am off to Esperance, they may go more direct depending on the weather.
Turnout was way down, to be expected given the weather. But a great time had by all, as usual. Wombat had the honour of getting the pudding to BV as the custodian had a migraine so could not make it all the way.
Further updates here when a few more get home or time.
In the meantime, time to keep on going clockwise.
-

Maybe you should carry a hair dryer with you? I find they are good for drying clothes.

Abridged edition.
Friday.
We left for our overnight stop at Ceduna arrived after 7:30 pm. Unhitched the trailer in front of the cabin and headed for the On The Run (Old BP roadhouse) and Hungry Jacks for some food and then back to the cabin (more like a motel unit) for the night.
Saturday
Out of bed at the ungodly hour of 5:15 am for the 6:00 am start of the final 480 km run to the border. Arrived there at 11:55. Rain free all the way to just after Nullarbor Road house and about 120 km out of the last 180 to the border was rain. We planned to leave at 3:00 pm for Ceduna on our way out to the bike noticed 3 white 1100's near ours (took photos as well). Forty five minutes later we were on our way back to the cabin and arrived at 10pm.
Sunday
Arrived home at 5:12 pm after a casual ride home from Ceduna where we left at 8 am. Excitement for the day was two 'roos about 50 km from home. Saw the first, and the second one was almost up the first one's rear end. Had visions of hitting the second, missed its tail by mms. Total travelled about 2160 km and never saw a live roo until 50 km from home.......funny that.
-
Left Border Village a bit after 8.30 and arrived in Kalgoorlie around 4 pm . . Only saw one live roo all day . . A big dead camel just west of Balladonia . . No real incidents along the way . . Stiff headwind all the way, so used more fuel . .
A good ride and nice to meet some of the WA OZSTOC Mob . . SAAZ will be exploring the SE of WA for a while and then heading North . . I will spend about 5 days in Kalgoorlie exploring it and surrounds before heading back to Canberra . .
-
Alan, the 3 white 1100's would have been Wombat, Pezzz and Hoffy.
Had a call from Wombat 30 mins ago, his clutch/final drive has gone about 50k south of Coolgardie, he parked it up in the bush, I will drive out in the morning with my trailer on a rescue mission.
-
Will type it up when I get home. Doing this on the phone does my head in .. lol ... Great to meet STroppy and allans1100 and Heather . Nice to catch up again with Stinky Pete and Saaz. Saaz was our companion today until Norseman where he headed south and we headed north. More on that later.
-
Thanks Brian,
We did meet them and have photos of the ad hoc WA/SA meet up at the border which I'll add later.
-
I've successfully completed my first FarRide. I wasn't going to go all the way home today, but got into the groove and kept going. 0830 departure from Border Vilage and arrived home at 2130. 1291km in 13 hours for an OA of 99.3 km/h, including a north/south cross town to get home. :runyay
-
Hahahahaa .... yeah, I was in the groove between Eucla and Norseman and was going to keep going but stayed too long in Norseman and then had an issue on the way to Coolgardie that would make it way too cold a ride and in a bad patch for skippys at a bad time. Everyone is safe and OK but I will let Wombat explain our hiccup in detail later.
-
I leave you guys to yourself, and look what happens :OldMan
Was a great ride from BV to Esperance. Thanks to the WA guys for ideas for spending 5 days or so down the South.
Only one wedge tail on the ground, well to the side, and only one roo in a 60 zone in a small village nibbling the grass (I had the Eric's on so it may not have wanted to look up or move :runyay
Off again tomorrow towards Albany, at least 5 days to get to Bunbury area, can be more.
-
Thanks Brian,
We did meet them and have photos of the ad hoc WA/SA meet up at the border which I'll add later.
Nearly drowned rats and others (two from Canberra, three from WA and two from SA plus one taking the pic) making it a Tri-State meet up.

The start of the Border run for 2015. Hoffy came to visit in the wee small hours and we proceeded to Midland where we met a Pezzz. It was a bit moist to say the least but undeterred we ventured off to the east. We stopped at Bakers Hill for a FarRider and Pezzz to catch up.
Thanks to Pezzz we have photos. He always likes to have some lights on.
(http://i941.photobucket.com/albums/ad257/surveywa/Border%20Run%202015/P1090155_zpsliypcr9u.jpg) (http://s941.photobucket.com/user/surveywa/media/Border%20Run%202015/P1090155_zpsliypcr9u.jpg.html)
The next stop was for breakfast at Southern Cross where it was also wet (past the moist stage)
(http://i941.photobucket.com/albums/ad257/surveywa/Border%20Run%202015/20150731_113207_zps8n3v9mvu.jpg) (http://s941.photobucket.com/user/surveywa/media/Border%20Run%202015/20150731_113207_zps8n3v9mvu.jpg.html)
During our short stay we met two riders one of which had a migraine and had to turn back. He had a delivery to make at the Border so he asked us to carry the Pudding and pass it on to Gunna.

The pudding was then handed to Gunna and Bear two of the originals. Hoffy was very interested in the long distance rides they had.

Oh dear a slight crunching sound and the STead was revving way above normal no drive. Hoffy and Pezzz convinced me to push it into the bush and come with them to Coolgardie to get some help. Well I had not ridden pillion in about 30 years so it was going to be a new experience for Pezzz and me with Hoffy laughing behind.
Rush hour in Coolgardie at 8 am on a Monday

A quick phone call and STOOGLE (Yorkie) offered to come and play Pit Crew and Recovery Manager for me. All is good and we got home in comfort.

Gotta love a gaggle of white STs. Must have been good for traffic clearing.
Great write up.

What Wombat said ... he has all my pics and has put up the best. Was a great weekend although a little damp ... did you get the impression it rained a bit?
-
Maybe we can do our own Border Run at a different time of the year . . Just for OZSTOCers? Where East meets West for a beer . . Stuff the pudding . .

Just a little........you had it worse than us as we only had the rain most of the way from Nullarbor to the border.
