Time to start up the next one. Ride to Eat at Lightning Ridge, NSW - Saturday, 26 May 2012. Some are keen to go there so I hear :whistle. Who else may be going? Registration is not open as yet, but make sure you read the start docket time :well
I should be there, just thinking about the route there and back. I have to do one more qualifying 1000km run (unless I do an IBA run before - unlikeley!), but will probably aim for a 1200 distance just for the fun of it. I hope to know by then whether work is going to pay me to go away for the next year before I was going to retire early anyway :runyay so hope does not get in the way of planning more rides >:(
-
I'm IN saaz, and I'll get YOUR starting docket too if ya want! :p
A few of us are planning to spend the night fellowshipping with our FarRider friends at LR then heading to Nindigully the next night (free camping - $20 rooms) to enjoy a whopping T-Bone steak or Road Train Burger - so, if you want in, think about planning this into your trip.
Here are some links....

It's only 275kms away...

FarRide East #19 - Lightning Ridge.
Lightning Ridge, NSW - Saturday, 26 May 2012
Registrations are open!
-
I am already registered :thumbsup
Start docket must be 11.30 Friday NSW time or later. I suppose changing the time around keeps it interesting. I may get Diesel to get me one as who knows what time will be on it :whistle
I have not worked out exactly what I am doing yet. This time I may go stay overnight somewhere other than Lightning Ridge then finish the distance in the morning. I am open to wherever other Ozstoc members may be stopping. It is 750km direct from here, but given the start time I might try and begin from somewhere else, weather permitting.
-
I'm in.
Bike's gonna be able to drive itself out that way soon.
Got a little challenge coming up at end of month where tenterfield will be my start point.
Think I was there for the last farRide only days ago.
Won't be staying at the van park tho'
So Diesel, do we get a generic 11.30 docket.
Or do you wanna head south into NSW get a docket and go from there.

If you keep confusing poor Dave this way, he'll think they're still on DST and he'll get a Qld 12:30 docket! :crackup

My current plan is the overnight on the Saturday in the Ridge, so now have to work out where to stop off Friday night. Somewhere I have not been to or not been to for ages in on the cards. This will be my last 1000km run as then I can do the 1200km ones, so I will probably just do one of those anyway.
But first, have to get organised for the Ozstoc event...what route to take..hmmm.. :think1 :eat :beer :runyay
-
Ok I'm heading over for this one, over the nullabour again I go :wht11
Any others from the west going ?
Turtle

Nice one Turtle - hopefully you'll get a posse.
We'll see you there anyway - make sure you think about the next night at the Nindigully Pub too if it works in.
Cheers, Diesel

If I'm home might just pop out their for the day
-
unable to make this one now :(
-
OK who's going which way and staying where?
No starting docket with a time earlier than 11:30am Friday, 25 May 2012 will be accepted (From the FR site,
-
Canberra to Bourke, stay overnight, then on to Lightning Ridge. Staying at the Opal Motel across the road from the RTE destination. Going to Nindigully after so I believe Sunday night. Then Back to Canberra.
-
1 week to go Villains!
Started packing yet?
Cheers, Diesel
-
I have 7 days a week to pack, so obviously I will pack Friday morning! Top box may be needed as have to allow for cold and warmer weather. I have installed the Zumo 660 so the GPS setup is a lot neater.

Sounds like retirement is hell. Always something needing doing...

No replies from the SE Qlders. Was looking for a bit of company on the way to the ridge but ...................
We all KNOW the rough and seedy hotels you like to stay in beatup - maybe we're just SCARED! :eek
And how come your Forum name is "IanB" now?
-
If I'm home might just pop out their for the day
Look me up for a :beer or sumthin if you make it Terry.
Cheers, Diesel

Just as a matter of organisation, should we take or Ozstoc and Ozstoc rally Tshirts to hijack some photo opportunities? Getting a few ST together and riders in shirts should promote the cause (whatever that cause may be!) There is also the question of national and world records...

Sounds good - although we are there under the FarRider banner and must always respect that.
I might contact the GTRAUS club and see if a little inter club 'friendly rivalry' would be in order as they make up a fair percentage of FarRiding enthusiasts too.
-
Challenge issued. Awaiting response.
-
Diesel, Seedy hotels - warm beds, unlimited tea or coffee, hot showers, and all for around $30 a night.
Except for Armidale.
Two people at the Ivanhoe costs $88 with ensuite.
Beats a tent and the local natives keeping one awake until it's time to ride out.
So, how are you going to LR and will Streak be in charge of the dockets this time.
Need a couple of law abiding citizens to follow since the speeding fine. Copped another in Warwick when the pillion needed to get to a pit stop on the way back from Blackheath. Precisely 10 over and another point off the licence.
After nearly 26 years without fine have copped two this year. suppose they had to get even eventually.
Re the name change, posted the change abt two months ago. Was getting confused by nicknames here and on farriders so thought would opt for something bordering normality.
-
bordering normality
And that is what pray telll????? :eek :eek
:crackup :crackup
-
I will be heading out about 2am sat morning, out through Goondiwindi, Moree and across to LR. Stop for lunch and then continue back through Hebel, St George, Dalby and back home, around 1500K (1499k according to Google).

What's for lunch?

You are welcome to tag along - but you'll have to work out a few extra kays to get your 1000 up (being the difference between Caboolture and Peachester).
I am overnighting (read camping) at Texas and having a pub tea at a nice little hotel there.
Cheers, Diesel

How are you fitting into the "window" with this plan Trev - seems like you'll make up too many clicks by 11.31am to get your 1000 or 1200?
Cheers, Diesel

745km (googlemaps) 8hrs 44min add in a small amount of time for "just in case". Lunch and Depart LR around 1230hrs, 748Km 9Hrs 20min via the return route. I will pick up the 1200km receipt plus others along the way just in case something happens after the 1200Km mark.
I am aware of the fudge factor of google maps and I actually use a spreadsheet with more refined timing (Can't find the link at the moment but is on the IBA website somewhere), I figure that if I can at least make the timings from Googlemaps then I should be able to make the ride >:()
-
Wow! Seems to me like there could be a SS1600 in there with very little extra effort. :thumbs
-
Lionel may also be joining us at Nindigully pub. I have to work on him to get on here. BTW how many rooms does the pub have, and should we book ahead? Sunday night should be quiet I would have thought (apart from us!)
-
Diesel,
I will be happy with the 1200K, the bonus is anything else after that up to and including 1500k, this one is all about the FarRide (and checking out the LED's) :thumbs
-
unfortunately i am out of this ride, need to spend some time with Kids & Partner, as i have been basically living at work for the last month :)
-
Be at the border in August then streak now that's a ride for you banana benders just for a drink and chin wag

Best off contacting them. I have a room reserved and I believe there are still rooms left (being a Sunday night).
-
I organised a room yesterday afternoon. Time to do some more organising, like get extra keys for the Givi topbox as I have had only one key for a while now.
Have to allow for some rain here and there (I knew that the wife commenting this morning that it has not rained for a long time was a bad omen!)

Awesome! I think you'll enjoy your choice to kick on.
Was talking to a Canberrian last night in shorts, t-shirt and thongs - he called me a Bar Steward! :crackup :crackup :crackup
Cheers, Diesel

Must know you well then :nahnah
My rain omen has been offset a bit s while driving around to successfully get keys cut for the topbox, I came across a ute with a Nindingully sticker on it. The gods will now be kind :think1
