Tyre Pressure Monitors

A set currently in transit on the way to me.  Will fit and test them ASAP, but as I'm still laid-up, it may be a while until I can provide some feedback.

Tyre pressure monitors arrived by courier today.  Paid Wednesday 24, two business days delivery, two emails advising of status, good service.

East fit batteries, not easy finding the App, but once found, easily downloaded and easy to set-up, all I gotta do now is get sensors on valves, haven't seen the Mighty ST in eight weeks, hope it's still in the garage, might check in a day or two.

Went down to garage, ST still there, expected battery to be flat after sitting for around 10 weeks, but no, started easily.

TPMS sensors onto to valve stems, go to iPhone, push APP symbol, push tyre "1" and tyre "2" symbols, and this is what I get:


Tyre "1" (front) @ 37.5 PSI @ 140 C - pretty good after 10 weeks

Tyre "2" (rear) @ 35.0 PSI @ 160C - not as good.

Will check in a few days, and then a few more days ........

Not sure why front tyre is @ 14 C and rear tyre is @ 160C - they are in the same suburb.

That's the cause of the temperature differential.  The little donk is right over the rear wheel.  When you started it to check the battery etc, it heated up the TPM by 2o.

Status report:



  *  Both front and rear tyre pressure have fluctuated a little, 1.5 PSI variation front and rear

  *  Initially these appear to be as temperature has varied, but upon a close look, this is not the case.

  *  The pressure drop is what normally occurs over two months.

  *  I've not previously monitored tyre temperatures, but I expect this is due to atmospheric changes. 

  *  The outside atmospheric changes have varied much more than the temps indicated, so I'm concluding the temp in the solid double brick, concrete slab, under house garage is pretty steady.  During the colder months that is, I expect a noticeable increase on the 400 C plus summer days.

  *  The front / rear temp differences from -20 to +20 are puzzling.  I suspect these devices are not very accurate re. temperature.

Any feed back on other's observations welcomed.

 Onesie's MY Grey ST1300 has tyre pressure monitors on it and today when I moved it back inside the GPS told me the front tyre was low. so I checked it at 39psi and I pumped it back up to 42,.. :thumb
When I firST rode it,it told me the rear monitor's battery was flat. So I told Onesie. :grin
I have never had tyre monitors before so they're a new experience for me..  :eek  ;-*

It shows for example in the winter column, that with a starting temp of 15C, and the tyre pressure at 42 PSI , that as you travel and the tyre temp rises so does the tyre pressure. This is why you check your tyre cold, never reduce the pressure of a hot tyre.

Never fit cap style pressure monitors to rubber valve stems as the extra weight when exposed to the centrifugal forces of spinning at Hwy speeds can bend the rubber stems to bend over and possibly fail resulting in rapid deflation of the tyre.
