Hi everyone, just a quick note to introduce myself. Im 48 been riding since I was 17. Bought my 95 ST1100 2 years ago, it was cheap & I thought Id try a tourer. Bike is great except for the non functioning ABS/TC. My other bikes are a 98 VTR1000 & a 71 xs650 rigid that sits in the garage waiting a refurb. Live on the Central Coast and do a lot of overnighters out to places like Bathurst, Kandos, Coolah etc with some mates from work. Thought Id join up for all the info.
Scott.

Hi, welcome to the funny farm. Seems like it at times.

Anyway, ABS/TC :- what instrument panel lights are on when you turn the key on? What lights are on after you start. Do all lights go out after you start moving? ABS/TCS lights should blink or stay on if there's a fault

More info on this page, mainly bottom half.

http://www.pan-europe.utvinternet.ie/owners_manual/parts_location.htm

TCS can be turned off/on manually.........but I leave mine on.  RH switch below LH fairing pocket

Hi Scott. I have my last bike ready to get going again as well, a 78 GS1000 Suzuki.  If you do any overnighters up that way let a few know, as I would be intrested for one.

Is it a mechanical problem with the ABS unit, or electronic?  There have been threads over the years on other forums on these problems. I know of one person in Canada who rebuilds the mechanical parts.

Can't go wrong with any Honda ST.  We're all firm believers (with the odd back-slider)  :wink1
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

alans1100 & saaz,
Re: The ABS/TC- apparently both modulator motors are blown due to AC being sent through the system with an earthed out wire on the frame. Have replaced the rectifier & battery as both were blown. A costly exercise to find, with only bad news at the end regarding the motors, prohibitive cost to replace. At least if I find any cheap fix in the future I know the rest of the system is now ok.

Scott, I will ask my contact whether it is worth pusuing a fix.  The 95 ABS setup is a bit simpler than the 96 on bikes.

Sorry to hear about that. I just did a quick price check just on the modulators alone.

http://www.st-1100.com/st1100-parts-fiche-abs-modulator-st1100as.html

Not sure what the Aussie price is but the US price has both for about $US1500 each

http://www.hondapartsline.com/fiche_select.asp?mfg=Honda&partnumber=57600-MY3-782

Checked the price on my 99 model as well, both for about $US2500.......ouch

Hi Scott - welcome aboard - looks like you're already enjoying some of the benefits of your free membership.        :wink1

Nice to have you along for the ride - keep your eyes/ears open on here as there could be a few in your area (check Members' Map) that would love to bolt out to a pub and relieve it of some hops.

Enjoy your time.

Cheers, Diesel
