Apologies for correcting you terry :), but roger has posted a few times, and has been a member since October last year, I have also spoken with him several times, so he is on the up and up, don't worry if I thought this was dodge, I would have removed it  :thumb

Fair enough but stills seems??????
Like check out the heading.
Reads like its something to do with the Brisbane Council/Brisbane Chamber of Commerce. Met the old Mayor a few times and he voiced and acted on his concerns for Motorcycle Parking within the City so when I saw this, I just thought??????
Its got nothing to do with the Brisbane Chamber of Commerce

Brisbane has 4 Chamber of Commerce's from memory?

South East Brisbane Chamber of Commerce
Brisbane Inner West Chamber of Commerce
Brisbane North Chamber of Commerce
Brisbane Inner West Chamber of Commerce
And I think their is a Chamber of Commerce for the Valley which represents the Businesses

But ahhhhhh lets see what comes from this, but in reality I think/believe its just a Businessman and associates trying to get together like minded people to support their business endevours under the disguise of the ownership of Motorcycles.

Remember it does say: people with an interest in business and/or motorcycles

                                      BUSINESS AND OR MOTORCYCLES

Hi Terry and Graham  :hatwave

I am a little surprised by the fear that has been generated by this post. I can assure you that there is nothing underhanded or to be frightened of about this.

Brisbane and environs does have many more Chambers of Commerce than those you mentioned, Terry, including Archerfield Airport, Greater Springfield, Centenary and Districts, Wynnum, Stones Corner, Southside, Southbank, South West Brisbane, Manly, Nerang, Logan, Logan Country, Beenleigh Yatala plus many more in SEQ http://www.4webmarketing.biz/networkmarketing/chambercommerce/#Chamber_Commerce_QUEENSLAND. and http://www.cciq.com.au

The application to register the Brisbane Motorcycle Chamber of Commerce as a not for profit incorporated association has been filed with the Queensland Department of Fair Trading. It has the full support of the President of the Logan Chamber of Commerce, Mr Bill Richards, (2010 Australia Day Corporate Citizen award winner http://www.logan.qld.gov.au/about-logan/awards/australia-day-awards) as well as Roger Seach - me - (Chartered Accountant, FAIM, Treasurer Logan chamber of Commerce) and Mr Travis Windsor (MBA and for 3 years advisor to the Australian Industry Group - rides a Triumph cruiser) (both Roger and Travis are State and Federal Government approved business consultants) and Barry Lane, owner of 4 Coffee Clubs at Springwood, Slacks Creek, Helensvale and LoganHolme Hyperdome (rides a Harley but we'll forgive him for that and life member of Logan Chamber of Commerce). Throw in Captain Jim Kelly who is the owner of Brisbane Cruises, the Lady Brisbane and the two Kookaburra River Queens (Honda 1000), plus several others and we are getting to a credible bunch of people.

Certainly, we are promoting this as widely as possible as it's an opportunity for business folk to connect in a different forum while sharing their love of two wheeled transport. Ask any business person whether they would like to expand their promotional base and interaction with other business folk and you'll almost always get an affirmative reply.

So folks, this is not "just a Businessman and associates trying to get together like minded people to support their business endevours [sic] under the disguise of the ownership of Motorcycles". Unless you consider that building a referral, business development and networking not for profit for the benefit of all members as being such. If that's the belief ... just don't come. It will happen with or without you.

But please don't go plastering totally unfounded and unresearched, potentially libelous statements across the web which are abjectly untrue. The consequences of that can be dire and impact badly on well meaning people.

Also, it's easier and less embarrassing to pick up the phone and ask me some questions before posting such derogatory nonsense. I don't bite. I'm Roger and my number is 0434 293 815.

Cheers
Roger Seach

Sounds like a worthwhile and positive initiative that goes about things differently to what the MRA (and similar) groups do.  Is there a central source of information about getting such groups going in different areas?  I have to admit not hearing about this before, so I think the word should get out a bit more. Thanks for posting.

Fair enough BusinessBiker, but the way it read, sounded way too Suss.
But I suppose some do you use everything that is available to them to promote their business concerns and if they can use Motorcycle ownership to do it so be it.
In fact Malcom Forbes, (Forbes magazine/Capitalist Tools) required his top men/women to ride their Harleys to work everyday, irrelevant of weather conditions and leave their Limos at home, so they could see normal people going to work.

So best of luck with whatever you are trying to achieve. Just think myself lucky I'm not a business man. But I may mention it to a mate of mine that used to send 8 ships a year full of his product to Japan that still rides most days :think1

i think it is a great idea, business links in many ways, its my business (Hip Pocket Toowoomba) that puts the OzSTOC shirts together, get all the OzSTOC coffee cups, the OzSTOC badges, and the OzSTOC stickers that we send out to the group, and i proudly promote our links with motorcycling, it is all about connections and credibility.

I am actually quite keen to learn more about the Chamber, anything that helps promote business and motorcycling i am there with bells on.

Roger, having just started my own company writing specialist equipment control software I am also keen to hear much more about this Chamber of Commerce, however you have managed to pick the day after my wife's 50th birthday to hold your event, and we will be in Bhutan in the Himalayas celebrating her milestone. I'll call you when we get back to talk further.

And maybe next time you could make it a little late in the morning??? 7:00 am seems disgustingly early  :crazy
Cheers,
Paul

Well, thank you for the feedback guys.   :hatwave

Terry, thank you for your well wishes but I'm still puzzled. You are the only person who has intimated anywhere that this looks "suss". I for the life of me can't see how any of it could. I write advertising copy for my clients and this was made as simple and clear as poss so there was nothing with any sort of double meaning or hidden surprise and then run past 5 other experienced business people for feedback.   :||||

Marcus, thanks for your support, mate. You have hit the nail on the head.  :thumbs

Hi Brock and Saaz. Thanks, guys. The aims of the Brisbane motorcycle Chamber of Commerce to support members in their businesses and in their motorcycling. Like any Chamber of Commerce, it is a not-for-profit organisation. From our initial breakfast on the second of October, we intend to finalise our first committee and executive.  :)  :)  :)

What we would like to see over time, is members supporting each other, forming strategic alliances and referring members to other people so that members can benefit together and individually with business growth, increased sales, new knowledge and connect with other motorcyclists.  :candystwheelie

It's been well established that business owners who deal with people that they like and trust are more successful, more profitable and have lower levels of stress than those that deal with just anybody. By bringing together members of the motorcycle community to share information about their own businesses with each other, we are starting from a very strong platform of understanding and like mindedness.   :beer

That's a pretty long winded way of saying we want our members' businesses to be more successful, we want our members to be more happy and we want to further the cause of motorcyclists who are in business. A couple of the other foundation members always remind me that we are there to have fun as well.  :runyay

The idea really got off the ground about six weeks ago when Travis, Michael Wren, Bill Richards and I discussed creating this new organisation. A couple of us had bounced the idea around on a few occasions in recent years but we had always been too busy to do something about it. We decided to put a stake in the ground and get moving at last. As I mentioned above, we have applied to the Office of Fair Trading for incorporation and this process usually takes about four weeks.  :CB--

Chambers of Commerce are independent non-profit organisations and can be formed by any group of seven or more people, registered with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading http://www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au/running-incorporated-association.htm . They are definitely not part of any local authority or government organisation but must form strong alliances with the community as well as government at all levels in order to provide the optimum benefit for members. If you are looking to do business overseas, particularly in Asia, an introductory letter from a registered Chamber of Commerce of which you are a member can open a lot of doors.  8)  :thumb

Streak, thank you for your support and rest assured, we will keep members of the OZSTOC forum posted on all developments.  :popcorn

Whizz, best of the birthday wishes to your wife for being two times 25 and what a great way to celebrate! I am green with envy  :grin  As for the timing in the day, our experience with the Logan Chamber of Commerce has been that we get better attendance with a 7 a.m. meeting than anything else. People can get on with their business straight afterwards and open their doors for their customers. When we run evening meetings, people are too tired.   :cuss

So, folks, we'd love to see Barry's Coffee Club full of people and the plaza outside full of bikes for some great photos. Please call me on 0434 293 815 or e-mail me on Roger@RedFoxstrategies.com.au to let me know that you are coming. As this will be the first official meeting and the launch, it will be a very exciting time.  :eat

By the way, one of the things we'd like to do is arrange for some meetings to be held at motorcycle dealerships and who knows, we may even be able to arrange for someone to have some new models out at Mount cotton for us to check out down the track, so to speak.

All this however, could only happen after we get the chamber moving with a strong foundation membership so please pass on this information to your other motorcycle brethren who may be interested.

Cheers :beer

Here's an update on the progress of this dynamic team. Attached are some pics from our gatherings so far. We have a second group now opened on the Gold Coast.

Inspirational customer service education has been kindly given by Barry Lane (HD Fatbob) owner of four of the top Coffee Club franchises and multiple Franchisee of the year award winner.

I'm the only ST owner so far but we live in anticipation.

Next meeting is at the Coffee Club, Megacentre, next to Ikea at Slacks Creek at 0645 for 0700 brekky on Dec 11.
