HID driving lights marked down
« on: September 14, 2012, 09:13:29 AM »
For anyone who has been thinking about putting on some HIDs this may be of interest http://farriders.com/forum15/index.php?topic=5066.0
Down from $300 a pair to $200. I will be getting some as there were a bit pricey before, but having used my 100mm Narvas converted to HID for a while the lights designed for HID use, and 55w, should do me fine.

Edit: as Terry mentions below, there are other sources. The link gives a few more to consider.

this is a cut and paste from my farride message ... but thats ok, i think i own the copyright.  :hijacked

hey guys.
after the memorial run i found my lights lacking, so i looked on ebay and found the seller   OMGCAR  refer item number  280967052338   and you will find a pair of 9" 55w HID driving lamps with loom and lens protectors , built in ignitor for $150 incl postage.
look at item  280963743723  and you will see the pair 4" 35 w HID kit i just purchased for $125 incl postage and you can get a mix of pencil and spread or what ever you want in the deal.
these look the same as the ones you are getting from WA.
well worth a look
I am slowly getting my self more Honda's, up to 5 now.
Also ride GTR1400, Hayabusa & 2 scooters to mix it up.

I just put the Shoreline ones on, and the light they throw out is a lot better than my Narvas converted to HID (with 35w though). If the other ones do something the same then well worth looking at.  Whether they are the same I don't know, as with other HID products they make look the same externally (eg ballasts) as that part comes from the same factories, but the internals may be different.  I am sure on some ride we can do a comparison.

If anyone gets the built in ballast models, be aware that  you will need proper mounting as they are heavier than a driving light alone. No problems with the police mounts.

Too true  :thumbs

In the next few weeks I will be doing a comparison on the 55W HIDs to Lionel's Lightforce 100W 140 strikers. The strikers used to be the top of the pile for driving lights not so long ago, and are still good as halogen lights do pick up different things.  But for twice the power draw....

well , in the interest of science maybe my 35w hid's would be good to compare with the 55w hid's.
i decided to go with the 35w lamps due to the Boulevard not having a alternator that can power a small town like the st's have.
anyway , i will have to get my clutch fixed first as it did the M109 thing today and wont disengage  :cuss .
it may be good if we can find someone who has L.E.D lamps and maybe post a good report so other members can get a good idea of what compares to what , could be some good reading and info. My trike has phillips +100's in the 3 x head lamps and they would have to be the best halogen lamps i have come across, may be worth bringing the trike along on the compare.
i should have my clutch fixed the end of next week , so some time after that would be great.

The +100s are great, I have used some in previous cars. I have some old Marchal driving lights that seemed great in their day, mainly due to very good reflector design.  Lots of light power is opk, but the reflector design matters a lot.

When we are ready I will organise a scientific test (ie dark road somewhere!)

the Phillips globes come as a kit and have a blue band around the tip (H4 part number 12342XVSM) in the kit i got 2x H4 60wx55w, 2xT10 park globes, cost about $70-$90 , called X-treme vision and i got them from Ashdown Automotive in Fyshwick off Gladstone st.
i have had Narva +100 and they put a shadow on the road in the worse possible location right in from of me, the osrams are good and the Hella's are quite good but these phillips just blow them away.
