Rider Survivor Event

Samford Village, October 21, 2012 from 7am-1pm

The Queensland Police Service in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will hold a Rider Survivor Event at Stamford on October 21.

The Rider Survivor Events are a key initiative of the TMR which aims to draw attention to motorcycle safety in Queensland.

These events, held in south east Queensland, aim to engage the motorcycle riding community.

Rider Survivor days are a great opportunity for motorcyclists to combine their Sunday ride with the chance to talk to police, and staff from TMR about the safety issues faced when riding in and around the Samford Valley.

Senior Constable Deborah Dahl from the Brisbane West District Crime Prevention Unit said the day informs riders about safe riding techniques through displays, demonstrations, and discussions.

“Attendees will have the opportunity to see speed detection equipment, police motorcycles and marked vehicles first hand and to have any questions answered in relation to traffic legislation and crash investigations,” she said.

Also there will be the Honda Riding Simulator supplied by Hart Honda to allow you to test out your riding skills and abilities.

Riders will be able to take a break, enjoy a free coffee and sausage sizzle while receiving information on hazard perception, braking distances and scanning techniques. There’s also the chance to win up to $500 in prizes.

The next Rider Survivor Event will be held on:

Date:           Sunday, October 21, 2012
Time:           7am-1pm
Place:          John Scott Park, Main Street, Samford Village.

Personally i think these things are a wank
I have been to em in four different States of Australia and their all the same.
Motorcycle Safety Awareness to me is a Wank.
Don't believe me??????????
Then tell me this. How many times have you seen a car overtake when theirs oncoming traffic????
How many times have you seen a car change lanes and nearly hit another car????
How many times have you seen cars doing U-turns in front of traffic??????
How many times have you seen cars/drivers just screwing up?????

And cars, trucks and buses are a bit easier to see than a bike??????

All car drivers know what a Motorcycle is, and even with a headlight on they still can't see em, so its quite obvious that Motorcycle Awareness is just a Wank.

Ahhh but what about Motorcycle Awareness for  riders???????
Well if you don't think that's a Wank you just haven't been riding long enough, because motorcycle riders do the same stupid thing that car drivers do.

Yeah wear a helmet? wear protective clothing, wear bord shorts, thongs and a singlet with the girl on the back in shorts and top, wear full leathers so when you crash the body stays intact.

For me all I understand is that Motorcycle Safety relies on the rider doing what they think is right irrelevant to what the experts say, with the understanding that both the bike they ride and everything in the environment is trying to kill em.

But then I'm not an expert, and I get bugger all funding to tell everybody whats right and whats wrong, so my opinion to most is most likely a Wank and I have lived with that most of my life.

And don't get me started on safe riding techniques :rofl
Yeah place one foot on the ground when stopped and the other on the foot brake. :rofl :crackup :crackup :crackup :crackup :crackup

Luckily no-one HAS to go these sort of training events, other than L platers in most states, but..

I have found the stay upright courses a great way of getting into good habits on the road.  Race courses are fun, but the road bised courses about how you think, strategies to survive etc are the focus of the road based courses.

And Terry, the guts of what you say is actually in those courses I have been to, but they are a quicker way of gaining some experience of good habits.  I know a few riders could benefit from them, before they learn the old school way..I would have saved some crashes that should have been avoided if I had not just learnt on the road by myself.

These rides and meets are great if you ask me, but then I'm a glass is half full kinda guy.

The Police can help you be aware of problems that can occur out on the road that you may not be aware of. If you go to them with an open mind and are prepared to get something positive out of the meet then its not a waste of time. If only one extra rider is saved then its a great outcome. If you go to these outings with a negative attitude, then you can ruin the effort for a number of people, so its better to lock up your bike and gear and stay home. At least the rest will enjoy themselves.

The rides i have been on in WA (tho not held for a while now) were great. The aim was to give the riders some helpfull info and then go on a ride. There is nothing like a big group ride under blue light escort to help make cage drivers aware that there are a lot of bikes on the road. If cars get used to looking for bikes, then we will be better off.

Being just a rider and not an expert on what riders should do???
Am wondering if anyone knows of anything that has been introduced to help riders ride, help riders survive that has been introduced by those that supposedly know that has actually worked?? Like backed up by statistical information???Like less riders dying, less riders crashing?? Less riders being hit by cars, trucks and buses???
And before someone mentions the mandatory introduction of helmets and their wearing?????
The truth is that Motorcycle related deaths actually increased when the compulsory wearing of helmets was introduced??
Ahhhhh seems people felt safer so went a touch faster and did things a touch more radical because ahhhhhh helmets would save them from dying :rofl
