Running a bit rich

After installing new pipes a few weeks ago i have noticed the bike is now running rich.
Fuel economy seems to be as usual - around 18 k/m a litre.
The fuel gauge is telling a different story though.
I put the last tanks performance down to being throttle happy enjoying the new " sound " & suburban test riding.
The current tanks range after returning to the normal daily operational routine is looking drastically reduced.
I will have a concise km figure in the next few days.
The last 3 refills have been caltex 98 x 2 & BP 98 respectively.
The only other factor was a recent oil change to Shell SX4.
Any suggestions ?

The best way to gauge fuel consuption, is to keep records over a period of time. That will give you a good average.

How are you working out that you are running rich, the deposits on the exhaust are no longer an indication now that we are using unleaded fuels.

Hi Brock, on start up it smells very rich.
I am assuming this is down to excess fuel.
Idle has been higher than usual on start up also.
I will have a clearer idea after running the tank through to empty.

With the new exhaust allowing the bike fo breath a little better, it may be over fuelling slightly at idle, but may be ok on the go when the engine starts to use the main jets. What is the condition of the air filter, if thats  a bit dirty it also may cause over fuelling..

Changed in April after Middleton .
Old one was like new .
Put a new one in it anyway

You can always just adjust the idle down, using the little knob under filler lid, that is if its an 1100.
