I think all of the points put have been fair comment, and something I had not really thought about.
Originally the greatest distance was all about encouraging members from all over to attend, as at least the first meeting in Blackheath was a real trial run of interest in members attending, so it was a point of conversation to get people talking, as are most of the awards. Now we have members from all over, some flying in and hiring bikes, some on the way to somewhere else, some from overseas and doing other things before and after etc etc.
It's not really about the distance but the journey really, so I don't think we are about to get hung up with IBA style rules about what bike, how you got there etc etc. There are a few other places you can go to do all those sort of rides and get accreditation, with very established rules. I went to a recent Victorian RTE at Forest, but I was going to go to Colac anyway to visit Mum at some time, so I did both together. Total ride distance was about 2000kms, but the RTE bit was really 170kms max from Colac, and that was going the long way back. So it was the shortest RTE I have ever done.
The story of getting to Ozstoc is more about how you got there and why, which is far more important than a competition to win something according to set rules.
