Yes Alan, not ALL BMW riders are a&@$@$es, just the ones I meet. I don't understand why they think they are so superior just because they spent so many $$$ on thier bike, we are all still fighting against the same problems of road, other vehicles, weather and police. So what is thier problem???

Present Company Excepted, they bought the bike because they are the sort of person who needs to have material possessions to display to everyone how much better they are than commoners who ride japanese filth.

If you check their garages you'll also find BMWs, Audis, Saabs and Mercs (because they're not as good as they think they are- the real winners driver Lamborginis and Maybachs and ride STs).   :grin

Good to see the "ramble" thread getting an outing.  This is exactly what it's meant for.  Talk about Woolworth's new "Put Your Own Sticker On" price assault if you like.  Or your grandkids.   :wink1

Woolworths stickers.....got some the other day........wouldn't mind using them if they could be used on something we'd buy but the our closest Woolies is about 110kms away so not much point in sending them to everyone.

I did have a look at a new R1200RT and a used K1200LT before I saw the low mileage 1100 advertised in bikesales and I got that.

Knowledge that we have a far better bike for much less

My old 1100 can do things that I don't have the talent for so why spend a lot more $$$ buying some thing that can do even more than I can ride it. I would rather spend the rest on actually using my bike to go places and enjoy using it and seeing a bit more of our great country and meeting other riders on STs.

If you bought the wrong BMW the LT riders would still look down their long noses at you.     ::)

A few months ago I was pinged at just over 70 in a 60 zone that had been very recently upgraded to 4 lanes as an extension of an existing stretch that had always been 70 kph.  I just blundered in thinking it would also be 70 since it was of identical nature i.e. very few driveways, 4 lanes separated by a median with a bike lane both sides.  Brissie northsiders would know what I'm talking about-Beckett road and the upgraded section from Albany Creek Road to Linkfield Road.

Anyhow, this week the powers-that-be raised the speed limit to 70 to match the rest of the road.  So I figure I due for a refund of $200 and 3 points!!    :well :well

The criteria for setting speed limits must be a case of 'pin the tail on the donkey'. No sound minded person could justify some of the limits we have on our roads. There is a section of the Centenary Highway posted at 80kph and yet the goat track from Narangba to Morayfield is posted at 80kph. Go figure. And the goat track has side roads entering at intersections. The Centenary has merge lanes, poor as they might be.

To get back to BMW riders, briefly, you do know that in the words of the immortal bard (Clarkson) "Only cocks drive BMW's" I know he was talking about the cars but I think it applies just as well to the riders!

I would have thought that the word Cock would have been one of those naughty words Brock?

There was, in the old forum, 10 reasons why BMW cockheads won't wave. I seem to have deleted it a some stage, does anyone have it to repost?

Top Ten Reasons BMW Riders Don't Wave Back:

10. New Aerostich suit too stiff to raise arm.
9. Removing a hand from the bars is considered "bad form."
8. Your bike isn't weird enough looking to justify acknowledgement.
7. Too sore from an 800-mile day on a stock "comfort" seat.
6. Too busy programming the GPS, monitoring radar, listening to ipod, CD, or talking on the cell phone.
5. He's an Iron Butt rider and you're not!.
4. Wires from Gerbings is too short.
3. You're not riding the "right kind" of BMW.
2. You haven't been properly introduced.
1. Afraid it will be misinterpreted as a friendly gesture.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
