It doesn't get much better than today!
« on: January 22, 2012, 11:40:35 PM »
Tassie came up with a corker day today, one of those days when you feel a little sorry for anyone not living here............sunny, but not too hot, clear blue skies, gentle cool breeze 8).............what more could any little Tassie Devil ask for?? :grin
Good company..............that's all that was needed!!............and that's exactly what I was lucky enough to have all day today!!
 :runyay :runyay :runyay :runyay

I set off from Nubeena this morning at 8.15am with a couple of riding buddies, Foxy and his missus Wendy, on his Yamaha , and ex vet Phil on his Hyasung, we were all set to meet up with Kev and Simon at Sorell for a ride up the east coast.  All went according to plan and we met up with them both at 9.30am. We decided to head up the coast and make our first stop at a very popular coffee shop at Orford................ It looked like every other rider heading north had the same idea, as we arrived to find bikes everywhere. No problem finding an outside table though and after coffee etc. we set off for Swansea.

I gotta tell ya...................I've never had a more pleasant ride........the colour of the water along the east coast road was something to see, and no traffic whatsoever to hold us up..................eat your hearts out, mainlanders!! :crackup

After reaching Swansea we grabbed some tucker from a take away and found a table facing the water where we had a very pleasant break. Kev and Simon were planning to head a little further north and take the Lake Leake road to Campbeltown before heading back to Hobart and the rest of us decided to head back the way we came and enjoy some more of the magnificient views we had on the way up.  So that's exactly what we did.................we made another stop at Sorell on the way back where I picked up some snags from the butcher for dinner and we headed for home arriving back around 5.00pm.

What a great day...........what great company.................I can't wait for the next one!!   :hatwave
 :wht13 :blu13 :bl11

There are many paths to the top of the mountain.....but we all need to find our own way!

That, my friend, is called 'livin the dream!"   (bastard!)

I happen to know first hand that those who went on to Campbell Town via Lake Leake Rd had a great time too! If that's not the best motorcycling road in the world - it sure it flamin' close! Run into Swansea by the ocean is great too.

I stopped in to the 'Sexy Cray' take away in Swansea and ate across the road at the park overlooking the water and Coles Bay - which is the same one I think you mentioned as well.

Good onya Baz for rubbin it in to us all about what another great day the South Island has put on.

Keep it up.

Cheers, Diesel

You're so right Diesel.........that's exactly where we stopped.   Unfortunately Carsten couldn't join us on the day as he had pre-arranged a camping trip with his family at Port Arthur.............I'm sure he would have given thought once or twice just how nice it would have been to be out and about on the bike.   Of course, that's not to say he wouldn't have been enjoying his family camping trip though!

O' incidentally.................we have the same magnificient weather conditions today, with just a little more breeze!!!!

Couch,
I know what you mean about the colour of the water. I still remember the colour of the waters around the Nut on the north coast on my first trip to Tassie about 1970

Couch,
The 1970 visit was on a bike, did a drive around in 2006.
In 2007 my cousin bought a place in Cairns Bay (about 1hrs drive sth of Hobart for mainlanders). We have visited her in 2007, 2010 and 2011.
Late last year we booked another visit to Cairns Bay 3/4/5 March 2012 but now my cousin has to go to Syd so we will visit an old work colleague in St Helens, drive up Ben Lomond on the Sunday and visit the Cadbury's Factory on the Monday before flying home that afternoon.
We love Tassie and nearly bought a place in Geeveston on our 2007 visit but too many family ties in Perth.

You're right, it was a magnificent day.  Absolute envy at not being able to ride, was most dissapointed when Simon rang and couldnt go.  I think we need to share emails and throw some dates around into the immediate future.  Glad you guys had a great ride.
