The announcement at Perth Rally of Saaz's ST1100 going to the club was received with gratitude and enthusiasm, and was the subject of lots of comments and discussion.

I'd be happy to see his bike defarkled, which I do not believe will detract from it being Saaz's bike, and will give it a fresh and renewed life.    As to a name, I believe that simply having a subtle sign "In memory of John "saaz" Nagle"  within a map of Australia,  would be appropriate and sufficient.

Was saaz's bike always a two seater , because if it was at some stage a single I have the original single seat and rear pod from my bike that I can donate to the cause , this idea is terrific

Thanks for the offer Phil  :-++ plan is to keep it as a 2 seater. The bike has a modified seat now  :like

Thanks again.......

This is a wonderful gesture by John's family.
I hope the legal hurdles can be overcome to see his bike enjoyed again by club members.
I would personally like to see  "In Loving memory of John Saaz" tastefully placed on both front fairings along with the OzSToc logo.
While on the subject, perhaps a perpetual annual trophy presented at the National Rally as well would be a fitting tribute.

I don't post often and don't own an ST but did have the pleasure of knowing saaz....in fact he frightened the bejesus out of me one year going to Eungella (thought he was a copper)

My 2 cents.....
Why not have "In Loving Memory" on the side in a scroll with the OZSTOC logo as someone has suggested, then list the fallen riders within. The memory of each member will live on and ride with the club. The riders will hold their head high and puff out their chests with pride to be associated with OZSTOC and the fallen riders (I know I would be).

On the nose cone just under the screen place "donated by saaz" enhancing the memory and thus explaining "how the club bike" came to be.

I think this is a wonderful & respectful sentiment.

I don't know what I could do to help, but if there is anything, please let me know.

The bike is making its way this week to the skilled members who have kindly offered to undertake the majority of work on this project on behalf of the club. Within a few weeks we will have a firmer understanding about the parts and labour required for the bike...... :popcorn

As we first advised we are really keen to make this a project that anyone within the club can contribute to if they wish any enjoy the finished project. Once the bike is completed the opportunity will exist to have the bike stored in various locations all over predominately the eastern states for members to attend all manner of OzSTOC functions and potentially able to be used for visiting inter-state members etc.

I'm still working on a number of Registration and Insurance avenues  ;-*

We will soon commence a dedicated thread for the build and reveal the name selected for the project.

Does Saaz's bike have a pendle handbreak? If not do 'we' want to have one on there. You would not notice it unless you knew what it was.

I personally think they are fan-f*ckn-tastic!!!!

I will donate the one that was given to me by Mr Pendle Handbrake Man.

Let me know.

I see many referring to the bike as Saaz's bike....the thing I get from the previous posts is this 'was' Saaz's bike only now it has been generously donated to OzSToc to be the 'Club Bike' project. And I think there lies the difference as there will be a point where it visually evolves from one form to the next.
To some it will always remain Saaz's bike and I respect that however as the clubs project it will be just that.
Good Luck to all and I'll watch with interest as this ST11 takes on its new roll
Cheers Brian

Can't recommend them highly enough.  Requires a little bit of "derring-do" to fit (i.e. you have to drill a little hole in your treasured ST).
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

A new direction has now been found necessary with saaz's bike.....

A prolonged and detailed inspection of the ST1100 and some minor servicing work has been undertaken to allow the bike to be run for a number of tests to access the ST's suitability to be used as a club motorcycle that all manner of OzSTOC member could use with some degree of faith in the bikes reliability.

Unfortunately the evidence gathered makes the ST1100 mechanically unsuitable for the project as club bike due to a number of issues that need attention.

The ST1100 has 213,xxx well travelled kilometres on the clock and requires far more work than just a major service and a set of tyres.

In consultation with a number of stakeholders a new plan has been developed to do saas'z bike bequeathed to the club justice.

The ST1100 along with saaz's helmet and a fitting scroll outlining John's involvement in Motorcycling in Australia will soon be on display at the National Motorcycle Museum in Nabiac NSW.    http://nationalmotorcyclemuseum.com.au/

The bike will still remain in the ownership of the club and will be documented as on long term loan with the museum.

We feel this will be a fitting and lasting tribute to saaz and his ST1100

:clap. I think this is an excellent outcome.   To display the bike in such a venue will not only bring attention to the bike but to the man who rode it.   It will show how one man's passion for riding became a major part of his character.   It will also give us another destination when riding in the area.
