This is OzSTOC's very own Wombattle out doing what he does best on his ST1300.

You can get behind him and follow his endeavours with this live link - but hurry - I think he maybe done soon - or not!     ;-*

He started at 0622 yesterday morning at Torquay Vic, and has just entered Katherine NT at the time of posting.    :rockon :rockon :rockon

Go Wom.    :-++

What do all the numbers mean?
And has he done this all in one day?
Title: Re: Not a bad day's ride....
Post by: Diesel on July 17, 2015, 09:41:13 PM
They are his Spot tracking device reporting his position. Yesterday morning - he started at 0622 at Bass Strait.
Click the link for a live update, and you can click any of the spots to see time, heading position etc.

EDIT: Technically - He started at Newcastle the day before... But this (official) ride started at Port Augusta.

The green numbers are short breaks and yellow ones are long breaks.

For some reason Spotwalla is now showing the start at Port Augusta at 00:42:11 on the 17.07.2015 and the Finish time 00:02:37 on the 18.07.2015. Which makes it just under 24 hours for a distance of 2703 km.
Well done Wom!!!!

Port Augusta to Darwin (or vice versa) is an IBA recognised ride called a Centreline 24 if ridden in 24 hours or a Centreline 36 if ridden in 36 hours.
He also picked up a 50CC, Torquay to Darwin. He is probably trying for a 100CC because of his short stay in Darwin.

Seems like he is going on, the bike does not seem to have suffered major damage. So hopefully it is just normal fatigue management from now on for whatever ride he is doing.

Here is the post from Mrs Wombattle regarding the roo.....
"So this is Mrs Wombattle. Unfortunate encounter with a kangaroo may have brought an end to the ride. Craig is unhurt and continuing to ride carefully toward Port Hedland. From there will assess what to do. Has also been in touch with Bill. And, the kangaroo hit the front tyre - he did not hit the kangaroo! Bike stayed up too."

Inspiring to watch .....
I was fortunate enough to be seated with Lionel and TJ189 at the National Rally dinner.
Two people who have inspired my foray into LD Riding. Watching Wombattle now is really great to see.
Glad all looks to be OK after the roo.
If you need a coffee close to where you will enter Perth (if coming here) give me a holler.
I have PM'd you my mobile number.

Wombattle is out. Front end damage too great, and will limp into Perth today.

Safe ride Craig.

Plan now is to make it to Perth, then ship the bike home.  Broken plastic and bent front forks, but he's still sitting on IBA pace....

Wom arrived at Shell Daly St in Darwin 2 minutes behind his ride schedule, 23 hours for the 2700km.  He's a machine!

Really glad Wombattle is OK but there are one or two kangaroos out there (one or two hundred or maybe one or two thousand)

What speed limit in the Territory?

It varies.  Wendy has the details.

Wom is safely at a FarRider's home in Perth with an SS4000 under his belt from Darwin, completed on an injured ST13.

Normal speed limits within town limits, 130km/h on major highways, and about 200km of unlimited from Alice Springs to Barrow Creek.

See, we do have limits...

Although you can safely sit on 104-145 in the 130 zones.  The cops tend to be pretty reasonable as long as you're not doing anything stupid.  Wom sat around 134.

Hi everyone,
Didn't realise there was chatter over here, been a bit busy on MYST. Sadly the roo hit put me out of business for the rest of the ride, I had a 50CC Gold nested inside a Trans Australia planned to finish it off.
What a marvellous machine this ST is!

Thanks for the Hondashop info guys. Still trying to organise the trip home etc but feeling great! Thanks WendyL for the help and accommodation at the top of the ride. Much appreciated.

The bike is being shipped back to Newcastle.  I've lodged a claim but it won't go any further until it arrives and is assessed.  I'm in no hurry, I've got three others and will hopefully be picking up a nice new Tiger 800XCA in a couple of weeks.

Good write up again.
Head butting a roo would be a frightening experience.
Rogue road trains wouldn't be much fun. I think the air horn would have come in handy around then.

You are right Gadget, but I squeezed what might be a year's riding for many into 6 days. So if hitting a roo, dodging a truck and emergency stopping for a stupid P plater was all that happened in that year I reckon it'd be a good one.  So all up it wasn't at all traumatic, just a bunch of things that hppened along the way.
