Just checked the front pads - have about 2mm left on them :eek
What sort of mileage am i likely to get out of them ?
I'm heading off to Balranald in a few weeks time with the trip looking like being between 4000km to 5000km.
Should i change them prior to or after the trip :think1

It is only a 20 - 30 minute job so yeah I would change them ..... if for nothing else it is just one less thing that could potentially make a fun trip and shitty one.

Change them big fella and keep them as "emergency spares" and enjoy your trip (lucky bugger) :thumbs

My mechanic mate thought they had more life left in them.
I could not recall how much life i got out of the last set on the old :slvr13

Two mm is still a reasonable bit of meat, so I'd agree with your mate.
As to how many kays would 2mm give you- dunno. My front pads have had 2mm on them for the past 1000 kays. I've got a new set in the shed ready to go, especially if I were about to do a longish trip. Your 4 to 5 thou kays would qualify. For now I just check them once a week.

Slightly off topic, but related. Anyone found that Honda dealers tend to pay a lot of attention to rear brake pads? Not sure if I've imagined it, but having experienced a stickly secondary master cyclinder, I can see why they might! Mine was binding pretty bad, without any real warning, cept that it felt like the brakes were on, but I could certainly see that anyone out the road having this problem would possibly ruin the rear disc very quickly. I found that grabbing the brakes hard let the rear caliper off a bit, but the disc was extremely hot after only a k or 2.

Depends on how often you use your brakes.......I just check mine every tyre change (about 12,000 Km F and about 8500 km R) and replace all three callipers at the same time. If any one pad looks like it won't make the next tyre change then I order and replace.
