Title: Ex-police conversion
Post by: Supafrog on February 15, 2020, 02:34:28 PM
Hi team!

Is there a way to identify an ex-police bike that has been converted?

Ie: I’ve seen a dark blue st1300 which appears to have the police right hand switches..
Is this a practical conversion done? Or is it likely to be an ex-cop bike?

What are the signs of an ex-cop bike? Did they use bikes with other colours than white?

It has quite possibly been resprayed.  Most conversions have residual holes in the cowls from ancillary lights, but if it's a respray they would have been filled.  If you check the colour code on the frame under the seat it will tell you the original colour.
In QLD and possibly other states, there are other coloured bikes apart from white.  There aren't many bikes in Oz that have retrofitted the Police switch block that I'm aware of.  Most ex-Police bikes come with their maintenance record booklet- it's a good selling point.

The speedo will be calibrated in 2Kph increments instead of 5Kph, and wont have an adjustable windscreen, probably no ABS, and ni HISS security system on the ignition.

The easiest way I know to tell is:

* Extra switches next to the accelerator.
* 2Kph increments on the speedo.
* No HISS security (Look for H.I.S.S. written around the ignition/flashing red led on the dash).

Cheers

General question for the st1300 owners of ex-police..

How do insurance companies look upon the ex-police? Do they use st1300p to designate? As if hiss is inactive I would expect them to be a greater risk of theft?

Its just another bike, there are no increased performance issues, and HISS wasnt a factory fit.

To tell the truth, I dont recall any ST thefts, (not the sort of bike a thief wants) and most badies will see police Bike, and shy away.

Stop worrying, get on and ride..

I wish my parts wouuld arrive so I can ride.. :-[

Just tell the insurance company it is a ST1300p and they should treat it the same as any other bike they insure.
