Melbourne to Bruthen Friday 13 September 2013
« on: September 06, 2013, 05:37:08 PM »
I have an itch, which can only be cured by a ride.
 :runyay

I'm thinking of leaving Melbourne around 10:00am Friday 13 and taking a longish route for a night at Dargo (depends on availability, elsewhere if necessary) and then Bruthen, returning Sunday.

The Friday & Saturday route could be something like this:

Post a reply or send a PM if you are interested in a ride.

Cheers,  Michael

I would normally think of meeting up around Bruthen, but I am supposed to be at Inverell this weekend.....Nice part of the world.  I have been there a few times lately.

Hi Michael,
That sounds like a good weekend but mate, I'm already way overdue to finish the tiling in the laundry and the dunny, rehang the doors and attend to the paint touchups.
Sorry, have to be next time.

I'll provide a bit more notice next time.

The ride went well - mostly.

A couple of friends pulled-out late Thursday, so Mrs W and I left home around 8:00am Friday and headed for Yarra Glen (2C around Christmas Hills), Healesville (a balmy 5C) and then Noojee (back to 2C) for coffee & cake.  Then through Hill End (VIC), Willow Grove and Heyfield for lunch at Briagalong with some friends from ADVRider (who later headed for Dargo).

We decided to give Dargo a miss and headed for Lindenow, Bairnsdale and then Bruthen.  Another change of plans, due to the hotelier painting the bedroom (too much paint smell for a comforatble night's sleep, so back to Bairnsdale for a room at the Comfort Inn.  Dinner at the Terminous Hotel (a bit pricey, but good tucker).

Headed for Omeo next morning via Bruthen.  The Great Alpine Way is still great, despite some 80km/h speed limited sections.  Around 12km south of Omeo, had been sitting behind a 4WD with horse float for a couple of km, passed on a short straight, and then leaned into a couple of corners, Mmmm that's not good, ST1300 handling felt a bit "off", stopped, checked rear tyre, almost flat.

Puncture repair in order, fixed puncture (took five rope plugs and five CO2 cylinders), checked pressure at Omeo, still holding air, had lunch, checked pressure, still holding air, get back to Bairnsdale, pressure dropped a few PSI.

Dinner at the Main Hotel (a bit pricier, but better tucker) with some firends from Raymond Island.

Sunday morning, checked pressure, dropped a few PSI overnight, headed for home, checked pressure s few more times en route, still okay, get home, no more drama.

Friggin' tyre, it's RS and will need replacing, has done only 1,450km, time for a new one.
