Hi Folks,
Once again, slap my hand if I have put this in the wrong place...
Thought you enjoy some pictures of my latest project for the bike. With my bike being an ex-police bike, there is very little room on the handlebars for accessories to be mounted on them. For some time I have had an idea to put a bar across the top of the dashboard to mount new accessories like a GPS. Well I have finally got round to starting the project...
I have finally received the GPS unit and mounted it, I am waiting on a new USB Accessory unit and that will be going on the new crossbar. I would love to have your thoughts on it and any suggestions you might have for making sure it is not going to shake itself to bits.
I have had one cheeky ride out on the bike since the GPS was fitted and it survived... I am yet to set it up so I can actually hear the instructions and actually test the software, but so far it looks like it might be a good one... I do need to move it so I can see the indicator lights but I am waiting on a different way to power it first.
Anyways, thoughts?

For power you could run it up under the dash :think1

Hmmm... I will take a look at that one.
Not sure my screen would fit with all those things on it... I can guess the first two items from left to right, but what is there third item? a Speaker?

Dash shelves for both the 1100 and 1300 have been available for decades, I had one for my 1100 and it had a number of devices fitted to it . . . GPS, UHF radio, power outlets etc.
A google search may bring up some sources.

Do a search for dash shelf, and you will find a few pages of information.

Thanks guys... The reason I went with a bar, was because didn't want to have to replace my windshield because the items would not fit on top of the shelf and use the existing one.
I just wanted your thoughts, about whether I am setting myself up for failure with what I have done...

You shouldnt need to replace the screen to fit the dash shelf, it was designed to fit the standard screen, and fits most after market ones as well. If the items you want to mount hit the screen, then move them closer to the rider.
What are you trying to mount and where?? A pic showing the situation would help.

RTE's which are a bit scarce at the moment, are a great way to see what others have done and how they have modified their bikes to suit their particular needs. Perhaps some other OzSTOC peoiple who have dash shelves could post some photos so that jt8277 can see what others have done.

Hi jt8277, I will soon have STroppy’s 1100 up and running and it will have a dash shelf. Not too hard to fabricate once you have the shape and dimensions :like

Hi JT, when I had the 1100, I mounted it on the dash using most of the ram mount kit supplied. Instead of using the lower side of the handlebar clamp I replaced it with a flat extension with screw holes to mount into the top of the dash. Worked a treat survived, Mackay and didn't look out of place.
I still have it and cant use it, its yours if you want.
