Hi STriders,The RTE at Thirlmere yesterday was fun. A surprising number of people turned up considering the travails and circumstances that caused stalwarts like Rubencan, A2Z and others to miss the ride. I arrived about
11.50am and a whole array of STs and other bikes were opposite "the wrong place".
B4 I xplain this I was chuffed 2 c the phantom Gong STriders, namely, DougSTar and ShazSTar were there along with their son YoungSTar on a cool Honda V4 600 (almost a STeed). These people are nice cause they are not registered OZstocers but turn up by surprise 2 Ozstoc events like they did at Bundeena in the rain.
"The wrong place" was not really wrong but a convenient place 2 meet. The place cited on the RTE thread is actually another 200 metres down the road. I was confused cause I read on the web that admission was $10. Yet people told me that 2 get into the centre we were opposite 2 was $30. Huh? When I got home I looked it up again and found there are 2 museums. A modern museum that we were parked across from and a historic museum 200 metres down the road.
Who cares. All we wanted 2 do was get into those pies down the road. And they were good. I got the Burgandy wine pie and whaffed it down with gusto. My gastronomic buddies were Paul and Heather in leather from Windsor district. I met Paul b4 at my first RTE at Rylstone. I would like 2 clear something up with Heather tho, cause as we walked our way back to our rides I said 2 Heather something like " I get a real adrenaline rush about surviving each ride cause there is so much more traffic than there was 38 years ago when I got my mc licence". Heather said something like "R U saying riding is so dangerous now that I should b afraid?". Whoops - didn't mean that. What I meant was that the riding xperience (in traffic) is so full on that a pilot like me or Paul have 2 do the thinking of not only our ride but that of the nutcases in cages and trucks. The thrill of the ride 2 me is 2 enjoy the environment and stay away from danger and when I get home I celebrate the event with a few beers. The pillion experience is that "Wow, what a country and I'm safe, my pilot is a good rider" - the pilot's xperience is "I didn't let anything or anyone spoil this ride - whoopee! and my bike is so good!".
Talking about good bikes, I chatted with Rooster about his 1800 Victory cruiser twin. I would love 2 ride that bike - so well designed and with a top box u could put 2 slabs in. I can't go past my ST tho but Rooster's bike is something special too.
It was also good 2 meet new people like John, Allan and Steve.
C U next ride.
Nearly forgot - cupla jokes:
"A dyslexic walks into a bra..."
and an oldie but goodie:
This guy is driving an open tray truck full of penguins down a highway and a police car stops him and says " You can't carry a load of penguins in an open truck like that - take them straight 2 the Zoo immediately! The guy said "OK". The next day the same guy was caught by the same copper with a truckload of penguins with sunglasses and sunhats on. The copper said "I told u 2 take them to the Zoo." "I did" said the driver "2day we're going 2 the beach!"".
