St1300 Iridium plugs
« on: July 12, 2018, 10:36:25 AM »
I'm looking at getting sone Iridium plugs for my ST.
I can get some in Perth, if I get a few boxes of 10, for $20 a plug.
This is comparable with eBay. The part number is CR7EIX. This is the standard plug temperature.
If you are interested in a set of iridium plugs for your 1300, send an email or text and after a week, I'll be ordering them.

Three boxes are no good- you'll have 2 plugs left over- better make it 4 boxes!   ;-*

Has anyone found iridium plugs to make a noticeable difference to their ST?  I’m interested in anything that improves performance but I’m not into pixie dust.

There is very little that will improve the performance of the ST.

Iridium plugs are great for motors that have hard to reach plugs, as they last a lot longer. So after the initial higher out lay, there will be a greater interval between changes.

Having said that, my 1100 is still on the plugs that were fitted 135000 ks ago. I looked at them once, and they were fine so they went back in. So far the bike isnt using more fuel and performance is great. No need to fix what aint broke.

That's my feeling too.

I recently had a Bazzaz ZFI fuel tuner fitted to STrudel, and just for kicks I also had him dyno-tuned. The result is a silky smooth bottom-end which I'm very happy about, and the banishment of that annoying hesitation coming off idle (which I also really disliked), but I think the Bazzaz by itself with its built-in fuel map would have achieved the same result.  The dyno tune got me about 10% more torque above 5500rpm, i.e. where I almost never go, and the before-and-after graphs below 5,000 are almost identical.

There are some folk in the States, that have tried dynos, turbos, cams (custom) etc, and their conclusion was no result for lots of money..

I concur.  Certainly the rough fueling can be fixed, and the bottom end smoothed out using a Z-Fi (just like in the old days with the now defunct Ivan FCE)  but getting extra grunt is just not a happening thing.

I put Iridium plugs in my ST1300 with no real improvement
K & N air filter. No real improvement
Penrite full synthetic oil. Engine quieter and I think runs better and little better on fuel but maybe a combination of all of them working together

I have them in the 1100.

I changed the standard plus at 120,000 km and put the Iridium ones in at 150,000 and not even looked with the bike now at 215,000 km.

When I bought mine there were none available for the 1300 but from some earlier posts on here some might have used the 1100 plugs on the 1300.

I have these in the 1100 NGK CR8EHIX-9 which I got from the UK a few years ago.

Iridium plugs 60k.

Obviously they'd like you to change plugs every 60K but our experience indicates a much longer life is normal.  Plugs seem to keep firing without discernible diminution of effectiveness until they fail totally, an event no one sees because we feel it must be a good idea to change the plugs now they've done 100K.  Just because we spoil our bikes!

Installed the '8' heat range ones (it does get hoot here in spring/summer).  Not expecting to have to change them for a very long time
