G'day, I took my trike out for a spin with it'd newly fitted 2000 ST1100 engine, I noticed it was missing badly above 4500rpm, are the Ignition Modules known to break down, or is it a common fault?
If it is not the module then I reckon it points to carbs so my question is do the carbs have to be removed before any adjustments can be made and is the manual good for tuning carbs?
Joe
PS could be plugs I guess.

Check your air cleaner as I found some types are too restrictive and strangle the engine around those revs.

Hey, thanks Stevo,
it present I have 25mm grey foam, if I can find some air con filter mat I'll give that a go, I'd like to check/change the plugs but they are waaaay down,
Cheers Joe.

Take the air filter out and give it a quick run to see if it revs correctly. Why are you not using a proper air filter foam? The CV carbs are sensitive to airbox changes and are a nightmare to jet correctly with pod type filters.

Hi Steveo, the ST1100 is in my Trike, as you know the air filter on an ST1100 is a whopper and would never have been allowed on a Trike si I cut down the plenum box and whacked some 25mm grey foam in it, I'll see it I can post a pic, do you know where I can get propper filter foam in Bris? Cheers Joe.

The carbs are very sensitive to airflow, so it may very well be being choked.

Air filter foam is sold in sheets of different thicknesses, usually 10 to 15mm and sold by bike shops. Can also be bought on line eg here,

G'day, my super rich ST1100 is now sorted, I made plenum box filters from fairly course foam and it is way better, starts easily and pulls in every gear, just a very light sooting in exhausts so is not too lean,
I will do klms per litre check directly, check out the pic of my modified plenim,
thanks for all help, cheere Joe.
