Classic Motorcycle Mecca
« on: September 29, 2019, 10:30:24 PM »
On my recent trip to New Zealand I just had to pay a visit to "Classic Motorcycle Mecca" in Invercargill.
Here's a sample of just some of the motorcycles...

I must say, while the collection is very impressive, I would really have liked to have seen a few more "classic" Jap bikes...Not a single ST1100/1300 in sight!  :whistle

A few more....  :grin

While I don't make a habit of taking photos while in the loo, I just had to take one of the wash basins... :clap

The SS100 is actually a 2017 Brough Superior...it's number 18 of a limited edition run of 300.  8)

Here's a couple more pics of it...

Of course no visit to Invercargill would be complete without a visit to the Hardware of E. Hayes & Sons to check out the World's Fastest Indian... :thumbsup

Well, at least they have a CBX!  I'm hoping that next time we're over there visiting family we can make a trip down south  to have a look at some of those beauties.

Definitely worth the look..as is E. Hayes & Son's Hardware. They have quite a collection of bikes (and cars) spread around their shop as well!    :like

Oh, and if you happen to be up the top end of the South Island and if you're into aircraft, I can recommend the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre at Blenheim...
Actually, if anyone is interested, I can start a new thread and post up a few pics... :think1

A couple of very nice finds there.

 :thumbs

We visited E. Hays & Sons when in Invercargill a coupla years back, what a collection.  We had the priviledge of them starting up the timber framed engine, it smoked out the store (well almost) before they shut it off.  I'll see if I can find the video.

Re. these old motor museums, I ceased to be amazed at the depth and breadth of some of the motor collections.  One we visited in Deer Lodge, USA in 2017, a little backwoods town of approx. 3,000 people in Montana, must've had 100's of vehicles, of which about half were on loan from Sherm & Bonnie Anderson of Deer Lodge Montana, a couple local business people presumably did very well.  Some guys have all the luck.

I took over 150 pics in the musuem, too many to post.
Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

I agree- an amazing collection of immaculately restored machines.

Ref the "hull" of the World's Fastest Indian- I believe it's actually an exact replica rather than the original.  IIRC you can actually climb inside for photos, if that's your thing.

I'm not sure that many of us have the narrow girth or short stature for that Bill.  Of member that I know, perhaps only Stinky Pete or Aussiexs ........

It's advertised as being the genuine bike, but who knows?
They do also have a replica shell that you can climb in like you said...I did try but couldn't suck my guts in enough to fit...  :rofl
There's also a "shell" at Classic Motorcycle Mecca...I did manage to fit into that one...of sorts...lol

Lucky it's actually only half a shell so I'm just crouched on my knees beside it...Damn, it was hard work getting back up!!!

Yes, the bike that is on display is the original.  It's "naked".
