A few weeks ago I post a couple question one of which was in relation to 60 series tyres on ABS variant 1100's.
As I have been deafened with the silence in the response department...may I rephrase this question a tad to...
If you ride an ABS variant 1100..what brand of tyres are you using?
The reason I ask this is that a month ago the Guys at Team Moto in Nerang advised me that they are no longer stocking Bridgestone 021's as they were fed up with customer complaints of very poor wear, particularly the fronts.

I don't have ABS can can comment on various tyres including 170/60 on the rear. You can get Avon Ultra 2s in the right sizes, and they are my favourite tyre so far for both grip and distance.

I have Avons Storm2 Ultra's on my non ABS 1100 ( should not make a difference ). The rear delaminated after only 5000k. The arguments are still on going regards the replacement ( which took 3 weeks to get! ). They are a good tyre for grip, can't get enough K's to comment on distance. There are a few write ups on other forums regarding this problem with other bikes as well as the Honda ST's.
The Bridgestone BT021 was replaced by the BT023 which have been getting good reviews as well. Bridgestone and Avon were the only tyres I could find in the Correct size for the rear.

I got 13,000kms out of the front and rear. Usually 10,000kms is all I expect, if not a bit less from others I have tried, including earlier Avons.

Just got back from picking my bike up. They showed me the old tyre, it had actually blown out on the inside as well as creating a lump on the outside surface.
Still waiting too see how much they expect me to cough up for the replacement, the shop owner agrees it should be replaced for free, but we'll see if Avon come to the party. Other reports on ST-owners.com suggest 22000k is not unusual for these tyres, if they don't blow out first.

I got 21000 out of the front, aznd 17000 from the rear using the Z6 Interact.

I have used the Z6s in ST13 sizes on the ST11, but only got 10,000kms out of them. The roads where you live must play a part, as in some parts of the US they get amazing mileage, while others are closer to mine. Of those I know in Canberra I get around the same as them.

But I only ride till two layers of canvas show through.

Avons...Yep know of em and I actually put a pair on a friends ABS 1100 more than 2 years ago and when I last spoke with him about 3 months ago, they were still on it and although he thought they were a bit hard and noisy, he was a happy chappy. But here's the thing...who sodding well brings them into the Country these days? Avon Australia certainly doesn't...in fact when I rang em I was told "we don't have any tyres in at the moment and we certainly wont be bringing in and motorcycle tyres" >:( And the bloke I got the ones just mentioned has given up on them citing "no support". I am told there is a small concern in Sydney that is bringing them in, but have yet to find a distributor here in Victoria. In any case given what I have just written in addition to what's cited on this thread, who'd want to go out of their way for the brand at this point?
Metz...Are Z8's replacing the Roadtec Z6's? if they are that looks as if it'll shut down another source of 160/70/17's
Battlax...I am presently running the second set of 021's on the bike I have here in Victoria, and I have to say the ones I have are not showing the rapid wear rates complained of to Team Moto...why...well I can only presume that it's know that all of the Bridgestone tyres I have used since 1997 on ABS 1100's come in varying grades of quality, which is noted by a letter of each of the tyres...the best go to OEM. So perhaps it just so happened that SE Qld got distributed a shyte batch?
Incidentally, if you want a set of the top spec Battlax you could get em from Honda...on order...and for the mere sum of approx $400 per tyre :o
OK, so where am I going with this, well I am a little peeved (no shyte). I think it is obvious that a decade ago Honda after deciding to follow most of the other manufacturers choose adapting the ABS variant 1300's to accommodate a lower profile rear tyre, which leave the ABS1100's somewhat alone, as it were. I say this as it is purported that the 160/70/17 is critical to the proper functioning of the ABS if and when it's activated. (interestingly, of the hundreds of thousand of clicks I have put astride ST1100's I have only ever needed to activate the ABS system twice...and on both occasions it saved my bacon :thumb). Makes sense I suppose if one wheel were to rotate at a different speed the the other then conceivably the ABS would (might), not work effectively.
So hence my original post of seeing if any ABS 1100 owners had ever bother to place a 60's series tyre on the rear.
I presently have a request in with the Service Manage of Honda MPE here in Melbourne to establish if Honda might offer a (yeah an extremely long shot I know :crackup), of a ABS module mod....will wait and see.
Anyway, the problem I have is having an ABS 1100 sitting in my Sister-n-laws garage on the GC with a set of Battlax 020's on it with 18,000 clicks under them...and a Mate that can get me for a very reasonable price a set of Continental RoadAttack2's...so until I can figure out the facts on tyre profile sizes for the ABS 1100's...you can guess the rest :(

The 170/60 is also used by the BMW 1200LT and some harley models, so tyres must be around. I got all mine locally through a tyre specialiat. I suspect the car tyre side of Avon is run separately from the bike side. ABS bikes have used the 170/60 rear with no issues that I have heard of. The 110/80 fronts are becoming a bit rarer too, although that is an early ABS and standard bike problem.

...the Avons I put on the ST I mentioned of above I think were 'Storms' or something like that...anyway the size was 160/70R17, so no issue with profile here.
It was Avon tyres Oz who I phoned this morning...and I know that Bikes Plus as cited on the Pro Accessories Australia site are a no go too...but thank you all the same...for the moment I am back in Victoria for the foreseeable future, so when I am back next on the GC I'll do another shop around...I only bothered with Team Moto when I was last there as I needed a clutch lock nut for that clutch I replaced the other month...but I'll have to make tyres the next priority as I don't think Qld plod take too kindly to having a slick on the front of an ST1100 :law
Ah Kev...glad to hear that...look...I am in no doubt whatsoever that 60 series tyres have been put on ABS variant 1100's for years without issue...however, as mentioned in the previous post, the times that the ABS is actually activated are as rare as finding hens teeth. And yes I have had cause to apply some damn hard breaking on the odd occasions...but only twice has that machine gun buuuurrrp been heard and the lever pulse back and forth under the right hand that at the time was anatomically connected to my external sphincter :eek
So with that said Kev...my challenge to you is...wanna pack all the brakes on a greasy road and then let me know how it all went? :thumbsup...don't bother with trying out the traction control under the same circumstance...I have already tried that on a Saturday arvo at a rally at Jung outside the beer tent in 2008...was great that the tent was almost full...so as you can guess it didn't go as well as I'd expected...on the plus side...didn't have to pick the bike up :thumb

For the 1300 it was easier and cheaper to get tyres from America.

Jakewilson don't ship Michelin, Pirelli and Metzler anymore to Australia. I asked them about Avon in ST11 sizes and they said they did not stock them, but keep watching in case they got some. They do have the Bridgestone BT023s in the right sizes though, so ask Streak how they are going. Other places will ship but at twice the shipping cost.

Years ago on the old Ozstoc email list I vaguely recall a bloke out near Gatton (I think), in SE Qld that blokes use to rave about the price of his tyres...I remember that prices Guys were citing were about $100 per set cheaper than what I could get the same here in Melbourne.
Long shot I know, but I just wondered if it rings a bell?

Gee that is testing things! I do recall that there was someone doing bias ply tyres but when I checked they were all but gone. Terry bought some before they ran out. Haven;'t heard of anyone else importing them since. There is someone on another forum I am on I will check with as he does tyres.

(The first time I changed types on the I went to Dunlop D205 but that tyre was superseded by the Roadsmart range and the closest fit for my bike was a 160/60 rear.
I never had an issue with the tyres other than with the 60 profile the bike could have done with another gear as the overall diameter on 60 profile tyre is less than a 70 profile tyre which is sort of like having a slightly lower diff ratio.
Just means slighty better performance on take off.
You could probably get away with the standard 170/60 off the 1300 which is overall fairly close to a 160/60.....not much difference in it and a slightly wider tyre and will fit the rims.
Reminds me of the old chain drive days where you could go up/down one tooth on the drive sprocket and 2 or thee either way on the rear wheel to alter your bike performance.)
I'm Currently running Bridgestone BT-23 120/70 front, 160/70 Rear which is a replacement for the BT-21 and claimed 30 percent extra mileage
Only other brands that I have found with these sizes are the Meztler Roadtec Z6 (have used and prefer) though it looks like they will be replaced with a Z8 (http://www.metzeler.com.au/images/ME-RoadTrack.pdf)
and the one I haven't used yet is the Avon Storm 2 Ultra (http://www.proaccessories.com.au/products/avon.htm)
