OEM's
« on: December 16, 2012, 03:46:03 PM »
My OEM's are now looking like this after my last trip

I have now noticed a lot more wear on the sides which has left a significant lip between the flat and the sides.
They have 9000kms on them. They were new in Sept 2008 and didnt start road life till Sept 2010.
Should I be worried or is this normal behaviour for them?

Cheers

Pretty normal, however as the tyres sat on the bike for two tears, they may have hardened a bit

Tony if these are the Bridgestones, I wouldn't put them on again. My first set wore similar to yours. I can see the scalloping in the photo. Now use the Michelins, which I hadn't been a fan of in the past but they seem to suit the 1300. Maybe a combination of conditions, rider, riding style, but i'm very happy with the PR2's and have had them fitted for the 2nd time. I run 42 / 42 PSI solo and can't fault them as yet.
Cheers.

I do spend a bit of time on the sides as I like the sportier side of the bike  :thumbs along with a pillion occasionally. Yes bridgestones battleaxes. I am due for service at 12K so I might book a new set in for them then

Dunlops did the same after 13,000km, had about 2,000km left in the 'hard' middle but the sides were gone after the Dorrigo RTE. I think has more to do with type of riding style than brand of tyre.   :whistle
