Just wondering whether flashing brake lights were legal. Got some led lights from MCL which can be connected to flash when brakes are applied, was hoping somebody might know🤓.

I believe thay can only flash 3 - 5 times ant then must be solid

However I will throw my hand up and say I have my MCL brake lights flashing under the topbox....and I'm not likely to change them to non flashing as they work so well. ;-*

I imported these when I was in business, with the argument that as they were on from the time the brakes were applied, they were legal. What they actually did was to modulate the brake light itself. In other words they would dim down then back to bright rapidly for 2-3 seconds before going solid red.
The thinking behind this was it was an attention grabber the same as headlight modulators - which are 100% legal in Australia I might add.
Blinking red brake lights aren't legal as they can appear to mirror emergency vehicles and the cops take a dim view of people copying them.
The example link above relates to a unit wired directly into your brake wire - there are others which have the modulator built into the back of replacement tail/brake light bulbs.
Incidentally the 100HD was the only one suitable for ST1300.

I've got an additional pair of bright red leds mounted under my topbox that flash 5 times then come on solid. I've had police behind me many times when I've braked and they haven't batted an eyelid. In fact many people have commented that they really grabbed their attention when I was braking. The original brakelight works as per normal.
Dunno whether they are legal or not but they've been there for years now and no-one has ever had a problem with them.

No one in their right mind would be game to argue that they're a distraction. I think they're a good thing.
I tried putting one of my own tailBlazers on recently but couldn't isolate/locate the brake wires - I'll have another go soon

JD, if it helps you not being rear ended, I'd go for it - you can always argue that they're safety related

This is how I did mine JDBiker - They are brilliant at getting drivers to notice you brake. I reckon they have saved many a rear ender from inattentive drivers. They are legal in NSW.

Can you alter the wiring so that you can change from solid to flashing lights, back off from America has a device that flashes your brake lights.
I guess it depends on your reasons for having flashing lights, there a few guys in WA like Brock and I do marshalling and we have flashing lights on our bikes to warn other vehicles that there is an event on.

But they are orange lights, the Plod would take a very dim view if we rode around with flashing red.. ( tho I would love to use red n blue :grin :grin :grin ;-* )

But I've got flashing red on the back of my bike, constable plod hasn't stopped me yet.
