Title: Hi from Canberra
Post by: robert12 on April 03, 2020, 04:39:44 PM
Hi everyone , I’m Robert from east Canberra, picked up a 2003 ST 1300 a few months ago now, first road bike since my RZ 250 Yamy back in the mid eighties. It’s travelled around 50000 easy Klm s, it rides smooth & very forgiving to a novice rider, but alas also has the FI light coming on at higher speeds. Would like to know if any one has had success with a repair for this, I’m about to buy a couple of knock sensors and try my luck,,, safe riding, Robert

Hi robert12 and another welcome to OzSTOC from SA   :hatwave

I never had the F1 issue with my ST1300, but I know that some had success with cleaning the 5-way connector.   See http://www.ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=5870.msg66273.msg#66273 (http://www.ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=5870.msg66273.msg#66273)

:dred11. Hi Robert  welcome from another south Aussie.   I have had to clean the five way once and it has been fine since then.  You will get a lot of info on the new toy and a lot of knowledge to help you with any issues.

G'day robert12, welcome to the forum :hatwave

Have a look at the FI Blinking Light Codes..... (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=348.0) to work out what the issue is then let us know and we might be able to assist :thumbsup

Cheers

Thanks going to try the side stand down in neutral when the light is on as per other posts, then maybe zero in from there, thanks

Hi there, thanks for the code legend,,trouble is the code I got was 2 longer blinks then 6 short blinks,,so 26, After a 485klm ride, around the 450klm mark the light came on, as it has after a fist full of throttle and slightly higher speed, no change in performance or fuel efficiency.I tried doing the 5 way valve clean out, but like a lot of bolts and screws on this 17 year old bike, I struck a rounded out phillips on the filter base, so not keen to drill out,,reassemble and let it develop.,,Robert

The screws arent philips, but JIS. They feel like a stripped philips, but the screwdrive in your tool kit should fit.

Its a good idea to get a set of JIS screw divers or hex tips.

Hi Brock, thanks for the tip, my eye's are not as good these days, gave away small engines and pumps after 14 yrs due to crook shoulders and failing eye sight,,next time I clean the air filter i'll try these throttle body screws one more time with the honda driver,,,there's evidence the lower filter box has been off before hence tiny white marker dots showing what trumpet came from what body. look forward to a ride soon, restrictions permitting.

Hi Robert,

A warm welcome from a coolish Canberra.

One of the first things I would try is to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and reconnect, that May get rid of the pesky F1 light. If it comes back on follow up some of the other ideas on this site. Also are you sure it is the F1 light,  it just the low fuel light?

Code 26 is supposed to be the right knock sensor.

G'day Rod, been planning a ride over your way, Check this out on a map, "The tin shed cafe Ride" . { 9 Pleasant Way Nowra} From my place it's via Braidwood, Down the Clyde, left at Batemans bay on to Nowra, for mid morning breakfast at Tin Shed, then Coolongatta rd to Berry, link up with Kangaroo valley rd across Cambewarra mountain, thru to East Moss vale, left to Exeter, Bundanoon, Tallong out on the Hume thru Marulan (Lunch and a stretch), and back in to Bungonia, Windellema and Tarago,,back home via Goulburn Rd. From here others around the loop could head on to Braidwood, down the clyde to Batemans Bay and back up the coast. Canberrans could continue on thru Bungendore and home via Queanbeyan.

Must confess I've never been to the tin shed, but the roads you list make for great riding. My other favourite is Nowra to Canberra via Nerriga. It could make for a good RTE once Covid's gone.
