Glad to be a part of this group. I have just acquired a 1995 ST1100 from a customer that did not want to spend the money to bring the bike back to life.
This old bike had been sitting idle for a number of years and has issues with the clutch hydraulics, carbs and cooling system. Who know what else I will find once she fires up. I've almost got the carbs back together and have cleaned out the cooling system to allow a start up to operating temperature. Then we will see if the water pump has survived!
I will restore this old girl as it has cost me nothing and I have the time to spare as I am semi retired now. I also quite like the bike.....
I've attached a pic of the thermostat housing to show some of the problems created by not storing the bike correctly.
I am a mechanic from Adelaide and moved to the UK from the early 90's working in motor racing ending up as Chief Mechanic for Gulf Racing with the McLaren F1 GTR's.
I'll update as I go if any interest. Keep Safe.

Hi Rob was the crystalzation in thermostat housing from an open to atmosphere cooling system
Ive never seen anything like that before
Has to be worst case senario wouldnt it ?

Could be incorrect coolant reacting with the alloy in the cooling system. Hot water should dissolve it, maybe a good slug of vinegar as well. Flush the system well with clean water, then fill with a good silicon free coolant.

Thanks for all of the welcome messages, I have got the bike running after flushing the cooling system and stripping the carbs. Water pump and cam belt look good so the next step is to overhaul the clutch hydraulics and take the old girl for a ride.
I'm going to replace the carb insulators as they are hard and old and unfortunately I will need to replace the intake tubes as the last visitor to this area had no idea!!!! parts supply at the moment is not good as Honda has stopped airfreight from Japan to Oz.
Engine runs well considering no sync or mixture adjust yet. 200,000 k's and no noise or smoke to worry about.
I have no idea of the history on this bike so I'm taking the cautious approach. Tyres are Metzeler from 2013.
I will flush the cooling system again and use type 2 coolant once I have replaced the thermostat, hoses and rad cap back to original.
I'm now looking at grips so things are moving forward!
Keep Safe
Rob
