Title: SA RTE Ideas for 2022
Post by: Bodø on October 11, 2021, 03:45:46 AM
Throughout the year I have made a list of places I thought may be worthwhile checking out so am putting this list out here.  I also welcome other suggestions to that the RTE coordinators can start looking at a program/calendar for next year.

Marrabel
Cradock Hotel
Arthurton Hotel
Robertstown
Royal Hotel Crystal Brook
Mill Bridgewater
Arid Lands Café Lincoln Gap
Gulnare Hotel
Watervale
Auburn Rising Sun Hotel
Booleroo Centre
Springton Hotel
Gungellan Hotel Freeling - used in teh filming of Mcleaod's Daughters
Lameroo
Farrell Flat

I also wouldn't mind checking out that place in Iron Knob that Langers has spoken off.   It sounds like it would be an interesting experience.

I tried the Arthurton hotel over the long weekend, and would not recommend it. The only food available on Sunday is pizza, and the advertised music is some old guy with his phone hooked up to a mixing desk and playing all the hits of the '60s. Not bad but not particularly good. The place is also full of biker-looking types but no bikes to be seen, unless it is the old chook-chaser with a milk crate on the rack for the dog. The Yorke valley hotel in Maitland would be a better option.

Another one that would be good for a Sunday (and is close for me  :p ) is the Paruna store and Tavern. Good food at a good price.

Cheers re the Atherton.  We had an RTE in Cadell where the choice was pizza or pizza.  I'd be up for a ride to Paruna.  I had a bit of a chat with the owner when I was there last april.

The pub or cafe in Morgan do a good feed IIRC. Outdoor seating on a nice day, too.

Getting in early. Gives some ideas.

Would like to catch up on the Edithburgh Hotel that we had to postpone due to lockdown this year.

Getting in early. Gives some ideas.

The similar request for ideas was thrown out on october 1st last year so by comparison it's not early.

The topic is now pinned, so should be easy to find.

So far we have:
•   Cradock Hotel
•   Robertstown
•   Royal Hotel Crystal Brook
•   Bridgewater Inn (the suggestion was for the Mill, but maybe not the venue for a bunch of riders in gear? Happy to consider both)
•   Arid Lands Café Lincoln Gap
•   Gulnare Hotel
•   Watervale Hotel
•   Auburn Rising Sun Hotel
•   Springton Hotel
•   Gungellan Hotel Freeling - used in the filming of McLeod's Daughters
•   Lameroo
•   Farrell Flat
•   Iron Knob
•   Edithburgh /  - was on this year's destinations
•   Naracoorte (Multistate?) - was on this year's destinations
•   Mintaro Hotel

And of course - Mannum for the Nat Rally.

Removed:
Arthurton Hotel - Feedback
Booleroo Centre Hotel - Closed
Marrabel Hotel - Closed

Get your further suggestions in.

Paruna store and tavern in Paruna. Great food at a really good price, but only on a Sunday unless you book in advance.

Bike friendly, too.

Wheatsheaf Hotel Allendale North (about 4 km north of Kapunda). It is the only place there. Reviews seem pretty good and plenty of nice routes to get there.

There is also the Mallee Fowl Restaurant just outside Berri, Overland Corner, or the Woolshed at Murtho.

I haven't been to any of these, so I have no idea if they are any good.

There are now lots of great ideas for 2022, and we can also think abour revisiting some of the places we've been before, such as Overland Corner, Naracoorte, and The Greenman Inn at Ashbourne.    Over the next few weeks we'll put together a program for 2022.    ++

The Gulnare Hotel seems to be permenantly closed   :fp  so we'll pick an alternative location for our Feb RTE.

The Mallee fowl looks to a bit pricey for food, and a somewhat limited menu (No beef schnittys or burgers that I could see) so maybe swap that one for Paruna?

And could we have a few more Sundays please ? I have other commitments on Saturdays, and being a greedy bugger, I want to do both.

Thanks for the feedback. There are plenty of Pubs in the schedule for 2022, so we thought we'd list at least one more up-market destination.  The Mallee Fowl has come up in conversations, so we've inlcuded it for this year.  We have also scheduled four Sundays for 2022 on top of four overnight RTE destinations, so Sunday riding is rather well catered.   However, we will monitor attendances for Sats and Suns.   See ya on the road.....

If you are at all interested in native trees and shrubs this place is well worth a long stop over to check it out properly so an overnighter would be just the ticket. The ride home could include Horrocks Pass, Germain Gorge (SA's best motorcycle road never to be - maintenance is a bit of an issue) and the Burunga Gap (short but sweet, good riding provided a farm implement/ute doesn't get in your way - ask Pete  :angry-old-man-smiley-emoticon).

Shillas and I have been considering what might be a suitable "Go To" location for short notice impromptu evening RTE gathering for a meal, or a coffee and a chat.

Cafe de Vili's - Mile End   might be a good spot, as it's central and is open 24/7.
See  https://www.vilis.com/cafe-de-vilis (https://www.vilis.com/cafe-de-vilis)

What do you reckon?
