Title: Where to source valve cover gaskets
Post by: DaleAP on February 03, 2022, 09:19:31 PM
Where in Australia would people recommend sourcing a valve cover gasket from for an ST1100? Just discovered one of mine are leaking, and has had a dodgy quick-fix applied at some point in its life.  :fp

The amount of gasket goo applied in the pictures is a bit excessive, however it is required to seal the rubber half circle areas.
The gasket goo is supposed to be cleaned off and reapplied every time the cover is removed.

If the leak is from this area you can probably just clean off the crappy old stuff and apply some good quality new goo.
I have some spare at home if you want to give it a go.

Thanks for the offer, but unfortunately it will need new gaskets. Whatever it is they used has become one with the rubber and there's no way to remove it without causing damage to the gasket. I also found a couple of layers of different sealants. Just spent some time scraping it all off the valve cover, and then using a brass wire brush on a dremmel for the channel. Thankfully it didn't stick to the cylinder head side, so minimal cleanup required there.

And it looks like the LH cover is also leaking, so I'm sure it's the same situation there.

Legend! Thanks, just placed an order with them.
For some reason my searches were coming up with UK and Ebay sellers.
