Hi Everyone,
I need some urgent advice on buying some new discs for the front of my ST1100. My Rego is due next week and just had a preliminary Roadworthy done here in Victoria.
I have been quoted for aftermarket discs $165 Each so that time two plus $80 to Fit. :think1
Total $410
Does anyone know of any places in Victoria where I could get some cheaper without compromising on quality and safety?

I hope that includes new pads as well, but I doubt it.
Metal Gear do the discs for about $155 each, plus pads at $25 a set, so thats $360 plus postage but we can get a discount tho I think you have to ring to get that. Then you need to get the job done or do it your self..

Without knowing whether the 1100 in question is an 1100/Police or 1100A it's a bit difficult to offer much. Added to that is it a 95 (S Model) ABS or the later 96 (T Model)?
Available OEM part numbers for the three different variations just in case others need this info.

Thanks for the information, but you could say mine is a ST1100/Police but it is a 2000 model Non-ABS.

Hi Guys,
I need to replace my front rotors at 156K for my st1100 1995 ABS/TCS. I note the following from above:
95 ABS
DISK, R. FR. BRAKE 45251-MAJ-000
DISK, L. FR. BRAKE 45351-MAJ-000
Standard 1100/Police Models
DISK, R. FR. BRAKE 45251-MT3-000
DISK, L. FR. BRAKE 45351-MT3-000
Most aftermarket suppliers do not differentiate these two. Can anybody tell me the difference? I know not to get 96 ABS onwards as they are different size.

Items 14 & 15 are the disc rotors and you will notice part numbers for The US and Canada are the same as the 1100 and Police models while the rest of the planet has another number. That means to me that the dimensions of the discs are identical and interchangeable.
It's possible (a guess at most) the laws in the EU needed a stronger disc for the ABS and hence a different part.
As for the aftermarket parts it makes sense to have only the one disc to cover both Police, 1100 and 1100A for that year.

Thanks Alans100. I am pretty sure mine where originally around the 5mm mark so should be easy to replace.

You can save the installation dollars as it is easy to fit the discs and brake pads at the same time if needed . . .

I’m in the market for new brakes front and rear so this thread is . Looking at the metal gear website there are options for sintered & sintered 2 pads. Can anyone shed any light on the benefits of these over standard please? Ta.

I'm currently using the S2's front and rear...
While I haven't done a heap of K's since they were fitted, I have found them pretty good as far as pulling the bike up quickly.
One thing I have noticed though is that they are a little noisy...as in they make a "swishing" noise under braking...
It's no big deal but I don't remember the previous "unknown brand" pads making that noise. :think1

Good info on metal gear website re different pads. My take on it is the sintered type provide higher performance will possibly lower feel & the organic provide more feel & aren’t as harsh on the discs. Personally I’d prefer the latter as it suits my riding style more.

I have been using the sintered for years, as they last longer. They will give better braking performance, and will work better in high traffic situations.
I dont use OEM, as they cost more for less performance.

From my understanding sintered brake pads are better in the wet than organics.
Apparently they are also more suited for big fat blokes like me... :thumb
With the ST weighing around the 300kg mark, my big lump of a body plus the wife on the back, who is no lightweight either (just don't tell her I said that, lol)
I figure that's a bloody lot of weight to be hauling up so I'd rather suffer a bit of extra wear on the discs if it enables us to pull up in the shortest distance possible in an emergency... :thumbs

Just for the whole picture to complete: today I took off brake pads, both, front and rear to compare them with each other: so they are exactly same on my ST1100 police 2000y, as far as i can see. But OEM part numbers are different: OEM front 45105-ML7-405, OEM rear 43108-MT3-006 which is remarkable because front pads are cheaper and easier to get rather the rear one. Does it sound anyhow correct?

The rear pads are thicker than the front, the front pads will fit the rear but not vice versa.
have a search here in Metal Gear for your bike, they make great pads and discs.

I see. Thanks Brock. I'm waiting for my pads to be delivered already, but the rotor is worn out as well, thanks for an advice.
