OzSTOC IBA1600 Preparation?

Saaz if you kept your average up you would do the same ride in about 15 and a half hours   

I don't think I will repeat that ride considering we have the time, and leaving at 2am rather than 8am makes a bit of difference

good bit of training Shiney, if you kept that average up your ride for the OzSTOC 1600k would be around 19 hours

I think I'll take it a bit easier for the 1600 and have more organized breaks.
I'm thinking of aiming for around every 250 kms for a stretch

I don't try and pre plan too much, as just depends on how you feel at the time and the weather.  Planning on more stops rather than less is a sound idea

I'd like to be able to ride with a more experienced Endurance Rider, who can push me along a bit.   Long hauls early in the ride on the southern leg while fresh, with shorter sections between breaks on the return journey might be a good plan.

That's pretty well what I intend. While you feel great just hit the road and knock off some distance. Then take it easier with more stops, or if you feel like it keep going. Depends on the time of day as well, as I like the scenery around sunup and sundown in some sections, or the light at certain times of the day through various parts. Always something of interest to look at, but as a farmboy at heart I look all the time at fences, stock etc etc and make good or bad assessments as I ride along...

To make the total distance a bit over 1000kms I bypassed home and went up to Steve Irwin Way then looped down through Caboolture and back onto the highway.

All in all I would have loved to have done this on a Russel Day Long But I'll be ok

And as an added bonus I got a new record for nods and/or waves from other riders...     84

How many stops did you need?

I only had to stop twice on the way there, collect bike parts in Fyshwick and fuel just before his place. It was good to take a break.

Make sure you all do the walk around your bike before setting off on this one. Nothing worse than OWNING the ride, only to lose it all for a $2 part or loose screw etc.

Should have joined you Lionel, but I went on a prep ride (IBA SS3000) of sorts.

After some info from TJ and Wombattle (thanks men) I left at 4am and pulled into Port Augusta 7.30pm AEST, being 1545km.
No problems during the ride except 2 bird strikes, one small bird to the headlight area and a Cockatoo to the driving light.

Nice sleep, (too much sleep for any serious IBA attempts) walked next door to Shell for chocolate milk and starting docket.

Fully awake and ready for the day, off I went, till about 2kms out of Port Augusta, bird strike to the helmet, then just down the road a fox came out from the side to say "good bye" and just clipped his/her tail.

Anyway, if you haven't been through the Burra, Spalding area, then do it, it's beautiful this time of year.

Sunrise just out of town, note all the wind turbines on the hill.


I got a little cold and stayed that way for a little while. Love heated grips.


Used the stops at roadworks and truck fire to eat and drink.

Finish docket 8.59pm, 3099kms done, then home for a hot shower and a beer 

Next time I hopefully wont forget my heated vest
