Townsville to Canberra
« on: October 10, 2014, 08:47:21 PM »
I'm leaving Townsville very early in the morning (11 Oct) for Canberra. I hope Tackleberry will be able to sign the paperwork for me.
The route home has three legs. Leg 1: Townsville - Mt Isa - Tennant Creek - Alice Springs (overnight)
Leg 2: Alice Springs - Port Augusta - Broken Hill (overnight)
Leg 3 Broken Hill - Gilgandra - West Wyalong - Wagga - Canberra.
If everything goes to plan its an SS3000 miles I'm chasing. The allowed time is 72 hours.
Tackleberry has warned me about the animals - they are bad at the moment. I'll be taking it very slowly until Hughenden (daylight).
Fuel should not be a problem as I'll have 25 litres in the main tank and 13 litres in the auxiliary. Fuel won't be a problem because for the most part the plan has me travelling in the open speed section in the dark or near dark, and I have to slow down.
The link goes live just after midnight. https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=b8a654376e2a85f0d
This ride is for Pat.

A worthy outing for an ST.  Will be following with interest.     :thumbsup

Only 25 litres?  Fill her up, man.  She wants 29 litres!  More use in your tank than back at the servo.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Without giving too much away, look for Barkly-Tennant Creek- Ti Tree then the Alice for the night. Just a normal little day ride!  While I like looking, I would prefer to be out there doing it instead..

I think he's feeling his age.  Looks like he slept in.      :grin

Pretty gruelling riding central Oz at this time of the year.  I'd reckon he'd be putting a lot of fluids through.

Around 8 hours to Port Augusta, Alan

Google maps estimates 9.5 hours for the 902kms from Marla to Peterborough.......No Fuel at Broken Hill after 10 or 11 pm but 24 hour card fuel at SA/NSW Border

If he's overnighting Broken Hill, of course fuel there won't be an issue.
And he won't be refuelling at Wilcannia (or any but the BP yard) after Wombattle's experience there.
Even a Feejer will make it to Emmdale.       :p
