They still charge a card payment fee? Which century does VicRoads think this is?

The Victorian government has been foreshadowing cuts in this month’s budget to rein in the state’s ballooning debt, which is tipped to reach $165 billion by 2025. <The Age 4 May 2023>

Every little bit helps to arrest the debt.  But it might be more worthwhile arresting Dan.

Vicroads aren't on their own when it comes to card payment fees...I've come across quite a few businesses that also charge extra if you pay by card.
I hate giving Vicroads any more than I have to, so I pay my rego with BPAY, that way you don't pay a card payment fee...  :thumbs

What really pees me off though is being slugged an extra $78.10 on top of our motorcycle rego for the "so called" Motorcycle Safety Levy:cuss

Here it is https://www.manheim.com.au/damaged-vehicles/6636874/honda-st1300-motorcycle?referringPage=SearchResults

Yes, this is the 5th listing.  From memory, this is a summary of the previous four.

1st had a starting bid of $1500, no bids, passed in.

2nd had a starting bid of $1000, I bid $1025, passed in.

3rd had a starting bid of $500, I bid $575, passed in, got a call from Manheim, what's your highest bid?.  Me, $575.  Them, you bid $1025 last week.  Me, that was last week.  No sale.

4th had a starting bid of $500, I bid $825, passed in.

5th starts next Friday at 10:30am.  I would still like to buy it.  I figure the farkles are worth around $1000 to me.  What is it they say about being 5th time lucky?

Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

Nup. Never heard that saying.  Must be Victorian.  We Banana-benders say third time lucky.
Anyhoo, maybe you'll have to pay $1000 to get the $1000 worth of farkles.  It sounds like that might be as low as they are prepared to go.  With that little amount of interest, you'd think they'd let you have it just to get it off their books!
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

That was my attempt at humour as I wasn't lucky 3rd time, or 4th time ....

Yeah, $1025 is about my limit, a little more than it's worth to me.   I've also got to take into account transport cost from Moe to Melbourne (about a 280km round trip), trailer hire, my time, a mate's time (his lunch) - this will be over $200.  I've a quote from a motorcycle transport company for $225.  And there's also fees to the auction company - over $200.

If all goes well, I'll be out of pocket for no more than $1400 or $1500, transfer what I need to the new ST1300 and then part out the old ST1300.  I gather from others on here, that can be a slow process.  WAG or others might be along to correct me.

There is also the option of getting the old ST back on the road.  It's a repairable write off, so it is technically possible, but it this viable?  Once (if) I've got in the STs side-by-side garage, assess what's required, runs some $$ through my head, I might know.

Best case scenario is getting the old ST on the road, keeping it and flipping the new ST.  Is there any stigma associated with a repairable write off after it's passed inspections and has appropriate certificates and registration?  Again, others can chip in here.

The ST1300 I am parting out was a repairable write off. In WA and I assume other states you need to start off with photos before and end up with a bike in the similar condition as before the accident so no converting it to a cafe racer  :'( . You also have to have receipts for everything. Given what has been stolen from the bike since the accident I doubt if it would be worthwhile putting it back on the road. While I have more than recovered the costs of purchase by parting the bike out it has been a slow process and again a lot of the easy to sell off parts are missing. Having said that and looking at the photos on top of what Michael wants there are a lot of components that can be parted out. I had several requests for:- mirror covers, tip over bar covers, ecu and windscreen raising and lowering device to name a few. Being in the eastern states would also make it easier. I also stripped out and sold all the components to do a single to dual seat conversion. If you have the storage room Michael I would go for it. I was also able to supply Wendy with parts to repair her bike although the postage wasn't cheap. When I can find the time I will pull all the smaller items like coils, starter motor, alternator etc off and put them in a box. Then I hope to get my granddaughter to help strip the motor down so she can she what she is in control of when driving her car. The parts will then be used for art or disposed of as scrap.

Helen has said that I can be trying.

The Better News

I was the highest bidder at the 5th time auction, the old St1300 is mine, again.  Transport is arranged to a mate's place in Kilsyth where the old and the new will be placed side-by-side so as bits 'n' pieces can be swapped from one to the other in readiness for the 'new' to be full touring ready, and for the 'old' to be reassessed for readiness for registration, road use and re-sale.
