Black Dog Ride for us 'Mexicans'
« on: April 04, 2012, 03:24:04 PM »
Arvo All...

OK I want go on about the Ride as this has been done within another thread.

Want I wanted to say is if any of you fellow STers would care to join me on the Ride I'd encourage you to register on-line...
http://bdr1dayride2012vic.eventbrite.com.au/

...the ride is going from Bacchaus Marsh up to Maldon, which as it happens to be on the same weekend as the All British Rally at Newstead, with their bike day in Maldon on the Saturday, the day before the Black Dog Ride rolls into town...so as they'll be many examples of fine festering examples of English Heritage riding towards us, it'll give you something to smile about, no doubt  :wink1

I might add that this is a Rally I usually attend myself, but I wont this year as I think this Black Dog Ride (BDR), for 'Life Line' is far more important...just hope that if a BDR is organised for next year it doesn't clash with the All British again :-[

Anyway, I digress...so please give this Ride a thought, and maybe see some of you there :thumb

Ciao, the can :)

Well only two more sleeps before the Black Dog Ride to Maldon from the Marsh...Thanks AJ for your efforts (much appreciated), and if we manage to see other Ozsocers there, well that'd be great...as I don't have an official OzStoc shirt, I'll wear the my ST 2012 red Rally shirt from Blackheath, that'll stand out...so maybe see a few others up in Maldon for this worthwhile cause.

Cheers Dick :)

Hi Marcus, there was a few of us on the bdr, today Dickie,Terry from B/ Dale and his son and myself. It was good to support friends and a worthy cause. My dog was well behaved,  sat on the tank and never barked once although it did try to mount Dickies dog.
Had a great ride home thanks Dickie.
Cheers Aj :blk13 :thumbs

Evenin' All...

Well what a weekend and what a Sunday...just brilliant, and the weather wasn't shabby either :thumb

First up many thanks to AJ for starting the ball rolling as it were, thanks again Adam and was really brilliant to see Terry and his Son there to, really special effort to ride up from half way accross the State...Wow! :hatwave

There were a few other Guys (n Gals), l knew (not OzZtoc), that were great to catch up with too...Sorry we missed you Marcus, we parked our bikes on the corner before you went up the street where most were parked...and 4 of us (3 ST's and a new 6 cyl beemer), all had a tops ride home via Harcourt north,  Mt Alexander, Sutton Grange, Mecalfe, Newham, and a cuppa in Woodend before escorting a Learner Lady home on the motorway.

Today topped off great weekend moi, as Saturday saw me and a few Mates were up in Maldon kicking tyres as hundreds of British treasures they sat marking their bit of pavement with puddles of oil, again in nice sunshine :runyay

Thanks again Adam et al

Cheers Dick :)

What a great ride!
Congrats to the organisers as everything appeared to go well. The last count was that there were more than 300 riders - what an effort. It appeared from my point of view that everyone behaved really well along the ride - I felt sorry for the numerous cars trying to get onto the highway though.
It was good to catch with Dick (Greencan) after meeting him up in Blackheath. Also met AJ and actually managed to handout an Ozstoc card to a prospective new member for OzSToc.
Caught up with and had a chat with a number of people who have been touched by the Black Dog and we mustn't forget that this was the reason for the ride. As the info says, Depression is a condition - not a disease and we can all help. Whether it is ourselves or someone we know we can take steps to deal with it. Lifeline is an important element in the fight to overcome depression and its deadly soulmate - suicide! Over the weekend more than 300 Victorians did something to make others more aware. I will be looking forward to hearing how we went nationwide.

A great array of bikes were there - ranging from Vespers up to 2300cc monsters. Jobi was impressed with the whole thing and it was good to have him along as Father/Son team. After the ride and a bit of a look around the town we said our goodbyes at about 2:30 and headed off home to Sarsfield (near Bairnsdale). It was a nice easy ride along the freeways (if not a little boring!) and we arrived home at 7:30 feeling a little cold with the outside temp hovering around 9ºC - luckily both bikes have handlebar heaters! Just over 1000Km for the weekend.

Dick, AJ and I are now mulling over the possibility of inviting a few OzSToc members (and friends)  down around the east for a weekend - some great rides around this part of the world.http://ozstoc.com/Smileys/default/dr13.gif

Great to catch up and have a chat, and yes your quite right in making mention in remembering just what we were all riding for.  :thumbs

Speaking of which I am wondering if they're are any OzStocers from our part of the planet that will be participating in the BDR to the Centre in August? :think1

I won't be going, but maybe in the Centre at that time (house sitting), so maybe see others there.

Cheerio, the can :)

G'day Dick,
I am actually starting to think seriously about heading off to the centre in August - I need to get it past my higher authority first!
I would be interested in hearing from any others who are thinking of heading off from Vic/Tas.
What is the story behind the house sitting? I have a friend who does it full time and moves around the country.

Make it a great day.

Morin' Terry et al...

I grew up in the Centre and we (Wife and I), lived there for some years so we still have a few friends there...other than that, freeloader is me middle name :eek

At present the trip to the Centre isn't written in stone as yet, but if it does come fruition we will definitely be there at the time of the BDR

Cheers Dick :)

I'm registered and paid up for the BDR. Riding from Tassie with apparently at least half a dozen others. I booked all the accomodation today, as per the addresses on the website itinery and would suggest not leaving it too long as spaces are filling, especially Coober Pedy.  Looking forward to it.  Booked at Glen Helen Resort on the 25th and there are plans for a group SS1600km with a group of Farriders.

Well done Carsten,
I am registered now (still have to make the bookings though).
Hopefully, we will meet up at Calder at the start.
I also hope that some more OzSTocers will be joining us.

Terry

PS - I have put some more info for readers of this blog:

If you feel like a challenge and enjoy the adventure of the open road, then you'll love this awesome ride. Commencing on August  18, riders from all around Australia are heading to the Red Centre to raise community awareness of depression and suicide prevention. The final leg of the journey on Friday 24 will take us to the Mall in the heart of Alice Springs for a Community Event and bbq lunch attended by the Mayor. Whether you ride the first 50kms, make it a weekend ride by overnighting to the first stopover town, or go the whole distance to the Red Centre, you will become a Black Dog Rider and help draw attention to depression, a debilitating illness which affects 1 in 5 Australians.

I know that all OzSTocers enjoy the freedom of the open road, the unique camaraderie which bikers share and the feeling of being part of something which will make a difference. Group rides will be leaving from each State & Territory capital. Details of the group ride coordinators are listed below in the Registration section.
The Cause

It's an epidemic of modern times -depression. The statistics are quite staggering.

1 in 5 people will experience depression in their lifetime. Over 50% of them will not seek treatment.
This year alone 1,000,000 people in Australia will experience a depressive illness.
Depression is the third largest individual heath problem in Australia after heart disease and stroke.
In the work place depression accounts for six million working days lost each year.
There are still high levels of stigma associated with depression and suicide.

Remember, depression is an illness not a weakness and effective treatments are available. It's important to seek help early and with the right treatment most people recover. If you are concerned that you or someone you know may be suffering from depression talk to a doctor or another health professional today. If we talk about depression and work together we can make a difference.
