I need protection?
« on: March 08, 2012, 09:52:45 AM »

 :rd13
:runyay :think1 :think1 :hatwave  Being a relitavly new member and still finding my way around , here is another question for you all.
Firstly I am relativly short of stature and suffering a  little from the dreaded , so called Middle aged Spread.
I have decided to invest in some fairly basic protection in the form of an upgrade in protective clothing, mainly in the form of some Kevlar type trousers etc. the main problem that I forsee is in getting something that will be a reasonably good fit and be comfortable to wear for the anticipated long durations that will ensue for some of the anticipated rides to come.
Any heads up and comments from you guys about what you might have found or experianced , both good or bad , in this regard is what I am after, this could also include comments about pricing and your feedback about the various suppliers that you have come accross.
Now for interests sake my personal fitment for some duds would go something like this.
 Waist 107 cm.
 inside leg 64 cm,
  rise 33 cm.
outside leg 96 cm  ( I am a short ass)

 Thes are all approximate measurements.
The styling might be important also, as I am leaning towards what I feel could be as  usefull design features such  as, cargo style outside thigh pockets, zip off lower legs. either seperate or optional detachable linings , Hip pockets ,etc.
One other consideration that I have is that here in Western Australia the average riding conditions that I have to put up with, is that it does not get cold here ,the average conditions are warm, generally varying daily in the middle to high 20's and sometimes up into the middle 30's. So I can tell you all that life is sometimes a bitch.I wont go out once it gets near the 40 decree mark
Please let me know your thoughts about this and also includre any comments that you might feel relevant about protective riding apparel in general that seems important.
I am also interested in a helmet upgrade alao  my current one  is a Nolan Full Face 705E which is now a few year old.
Hoping to hear from you all,
 Cheers ,
Winston66, Western Auatralia

G'day Winston - I got a pair of  cheap 'Wicked Gear' Kevlar type reinforced jeans with the armour for shorter ride days - <400km, but if you're going to do multiple long days in the saddle, I'd recommend proper Touring Pants. They are around $300 - but your    :butt    thanks you long after the $$$ is forgotten.

Here is a thread about cheap Kevlar jeans we discussed once...

Hope this helps - short arse!       :wink1

If you contact Wicked Gear Winston, and give them your size requirements they should be able to tell you if they have something to suit.

They are quite helpfull.

Been through heaps of the stuff and most of it is crap
The only stuff I would reccomend is the OLYMPIA gear, but you have to get it from America, or off the American EBay. I have a short Flouro jacket, the summer vented pants that have zip off lower legs?? winter pants. All have armour, all have pocketrs you can get your hands in with gloves on, all have Zips and fastening gear that works, with and without gloves on.
It also comes in Duck desease lengths as well :rofl
OLYMPIA Link: http://olympiamotosports.com/category/store-products/mesh-tech/
Its the only stuff I'd reccomend besides my Dririder RallyCross jacket that has the camelbak in it, that I havn't been able top break yet.
If you have really deep pockets you cant go past the BMW gear. I can only afford the gloves and found none better

 :rd13 :think1 :hatwave :hatwave :thumbs            Winston66 says,
Thanks everyone for your quick feedback, this is just the info. that I was hoping to get. Its realy good as I can only afford to buy this stuff once, so no stuff up's are allowed for me.
I am also interested in any comments in regard to Helmuts etc.
I can see that once I have your feedback that many pleasurable hours will be spent following up your info.
 Please keep the comments comming.
Cheers to you all.

As for Helmet I can't go past Shoei, for comfort. I had an AGV one and it was horrible. the Shoei has ear pockets, with enough room for the headset etc.

I like wearing my Dririder pants on farrides. Don't get cold and it protects you from the exhaust heat. Must do something about that soon.
Kevlar jeans are good, I have a pair of Draggin jeans. I use these on rides around town and short country. The Kevlar in the arse and knees make it hot though, hense the dririder pants for long distance.
It all comes down to personal preference and what you want to do.

Mate they are hot as hell. Myself and lady, road North just after Christmas a couple of years ago with them on, and after a few hundred kays, off they came. Suppose it was up near the 40's. When I got home, later tried to flog them off to a sucker, but all I can remember happening is that they went in the bin.
