I will probably turn into a "shiny top" and loose my goatee.   If the chemo knocks the level down to zero and I remain clear, I reckon it will be worth it.

Okay - but no more selfies okay!???     :nahnah

Glad to hear some positives there champ.      ++

Update on my Prostate Cancer
The new way of treating advanced prostate cancer is to hit it with hormone therapy and chemo at the same time, which gives much better medium and long term results.
I had my first session of chemo yesterday, which went smoothly, but the pre-chemo blood test was the wonderful surprise.
After just 8 weeks of hormone therapy, and before the chemo started, 99.5% of the cancer has gone, and it now close to an undetectable level.   :runyay
The oncologist and urologist both expected that the hormone therapy would kill off up to 95% so it has knocked off a huge amount more that anyone expected, and that's before any chemo.
I am advised  that the chemo will not totally kill off the remaining 0.5%  but with this fantastic result, I see a chance.
This is time for celebration for it's the first time in about 6 years that I've seen my PSA go down, even after two bouts of radiotherapy, and the drop is dramatic.
Once again thanks to my OzSTOC friends for the friendship and support for Chris and I during this journey.    :grin  :runyay

Its simply ..... :runyay :runyay :runyay :runyay :runyay :runyay :runyay and then some news  :thumbsup

hey Pete... Best Possible News... we are still keeping our fingers crossed... Kate's Pa has had prostate cancer for the past twenty years (94 years young), taking only hormone therapy, so for some people it works very well... Kate's other bit of advice (based on personal experience) - ALL your hair will go and baby powder will become your friend... looking forward to catching up in August... cheers, John & Kate.

I had my second chemo today
I had my second round of chemotherapy this morning, as well as my second ADT implant via another needle about the size of a screwdriver.   I now know how an attempt murder victim feels, as I've been poisoned and stabbed at the same time.  Happily my blood counts had bounced back into the normal range before today's treatment.   Based upon how the last treatment went, I expect to feel OK for the next couple of days, and then somewhat crook until at least Friday week. I got a ride in last week with Fish, and we went to the Strathalbyn Bakery for morning tea and the Finnis General Store for lunch.   I will be highly susceptible to infections of any sort for the next two weeks.   Side effects that I experienced in my last "crook week" included sleeplessness for the first night (tonight), muscle aches, general fatigue, disturbed tummy with "extra special" wind, and thinning hair & beard which I expect to wave goodbye to over the next week or so.  Really it wasn't too bad at all, and only lasted for a week.  I now have a very nice trilby style hat.   All is well, and I remain in good hands both physically, spiritually and emotionally.
Cheers

Good to read that you're coping with the chemo.
The stabbing sounds pretty gruesome.
Does ALL your hair fall out, or just off your head?    :crazy
Trust you get to feel really well before family festivities around Christmas.    :thumbs
Oh, and keep that bike battery charged and move it off the tyre flat spot just because you can.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Biggles, is that the first time you have ever used emoticons???   :runyay
Yep, ALL the body hair eventually goes .... which will be odd, and there will be no photos on the forum.   :eek
My thinning head hair and beard will be shaved in the next few days.   :fp
My oncologist timed the treatments so that I could get to the Halls Gap RTE, and also so that I should be feeling OK for Christmas.  He's a good fellow..    :beer  :eat
It is my intention to move it about 300km on a day during the weeks that I'm feeling good, so it should be OK.   :grin
In all of this I figure that if my hair is falling out and I'm feeling crook, the chemo is also busy killing cancer cells, and I have the perfect excuse to rest up and watch the poms get flogged in Perth.  :thumbs

Thanks everyone for you on-going friendship and support. Sharing my journey has always been part of my coping strategy.   :Blow
