Title: RTE Meningie Hotel
Post by: Shillas on September 18, 2018, 12:44:12 PM
Was certainly interesting riding for the Meningie RTE, if I'd known it was going to be that bad, I might have been boring and either driven or ridden a more A - B route than I did.

Some showers in the morning when I left, but nothing too bad and I thought conditions were generally ok until I got to Coonalpyn. The ride to Meningie from there was challenging with a permanent list to the bike and a few scares on bends when the wind wanted to take me into the oncoming lane. Luckily only a couple of vehicles on that stretch of road.

After lunch, I followed John G in very windy conditions down to the Narrung Ferry, passed him as he pulled over just before the ferry. Rode back to Tailem Bend, then ferry to Jervois and eventually home along SE Freeway, some shopping in Mt Barker and home.

All up, over 400 k's for a trip that would normally be about 135 k's point to point. Some new roads ridden and 3 ferry crossings.

++. Definately some of the most challenging weather I have ever ridden in.    A good day though despite the conditions.

I haven't the wind as bad as it was nearing Meningie but I've side winds where I've needed to slow to about 80k/h while riding two up and towing a trailer with some of our tiny two trailer road trains had trouble staying in the lane at that time.

Just think you now have something you can tell the grand kids if/when you have them.
