I'm in.  Whenever I've ridden out that way, any group meet-up has been the Caltex or the BP.  They're better than Maccas would have been even on a good day, because you don't have to leave the highway to get to them.

As a matter of interest, what fuel is available in Grantham?

And are we riding to Wagga Wagga next month to help out with their economic recovery?  (bad joke)

Hey Biggles. I know for sure that you can get diesel, if you have that model. I'm sure they've got the other varieties as well. Are you planning to jump on the queue on the Gateway again or are you going to make your own way out to Blacksoil.

Nah, one diesel burner on a ride is enough.    :grin  I'm happy with Unleaded, but some might crave Premium.
I'll go direct.  No point in riding further just so I can pay tolls.

Come on Biggles. Help Anna out. Make it a complete ride-day for charity.
Pretty sure Premium is on offer at Grantham.
See you at Blacksoil then.

If riding the toll rode help Anna Blight I'd be going via Cairns if I had to, to avoid it.

Lets make the Caltex at Blacksoil our 'north meets south' meeting point at 8.45 - 9.00am with a ride-out time of 9.15.

Maybe those that are coming, could you re-state your intention to do so, AND, that you understand the new meeting arrangements.

Skip - Diesel is IN - even under these new arrangements. I will meet you at Burpers around 6.45am as we wouldn't want to leave much later than that to make checkpoint. (I'm OK coz I'm on a  :13Candy - It's you on the   :blu13left that I'm worried about.              :crackup

Thanks very much for organising this (and persevering!)       :-++          :thumbsup

Cheers, Diesel

PS - now - where to go for a prior ride to lighten my fuel load...           :rofl

Whizz bought up a few good points about roadworks and the technical difficulties of organising a group to meet at Goodna whilst the works are going on. The change of venue was to make it easier to get the group in and out of.

Cheers, Diesel

WELL
the Godden's are STILL on the "COSTA" Pacific Dawn

BUT
will be home by Sat. 10th,

SO count me in on any of the THREE dates offered,

with a non relevant question,
highway speed, looses power for 4,  6 or 10 seconds
then comes on full power,
have lots of fuel, lots of battery,  checked the reading with the multimeter,  12.50 volts
some times, so bad, engine stalls ((scary at 110 K's))

pull over, find neutral, wait say 5 to 15 minutes, and starts up ok, then runs fine for 15, to 20 Klms.
before doing it all over again
all help is accepted and appreciated.

I'm with Bgl's, Blacksoil is a better stop, all ways to breakfast, or Dinner for that matter,
as for support, I believe support starts at home, SO you had ALL beter start using and paying for my PC help and support

harieg,

If your battery is 12.50 with the engine running above idle, then there is something amis, it should be around 14V  (13.8 - 14.2)

Harieg,
I agree with Brock, if you're only getting 12.5V above idle then your alternator isn't working correctly. From the symptoms you describe it sounds like you're running just on battery with almost no top-up for it, hence the 5-15 minute rest allows the battery to recover a bit and your off again for a while. If the battery voltage drops too low then FI may stop working correctly hence the loss of road power. Maybe worth getting your alternator checked.

Hope this helps, and hop to see you on 17th!.

Cheers

Diesel. Maybe we could just open the throttle a little wider on the way out. Nah. Better not. I may have my son and some other 'fringe dwellers' joining me on the ride. Wouldn't want to set a bad example, or make any more donations to the Anna Bligh fund.

Harieg, which year ST do you have? Pre 96 had an older style charging system that has its own known issues to look at (I should know as it is the same as my other bike I have had the last 22 years).  Ensuring that the battery terminals are clean and tight is the first step, after that a few other tests need to be done.  Connections to various parts of the charging system need to be looked at as they get lazy with age (much like a few of us!)

Sorry Skip,
Can't make the ride on the 17th. Two daughters flying into Brisbane from different sides of the World after extended overseas holidays. Great planning - one lands at 11am and the other at 4pm so we have to while away 5 hours in between! I'd definitely prefer to be riding, but she who must be obeyed would cut my nuts out if I even mentioned the idea. They just don't get it!

What are you, man or mouse?  From 11:15 you could whizz out to Murphy's Creek, have a bite to eat and whizz back to the airport by 4:00 with time to spare and no sweat worked up.  You're not thinking straight!

Guys, I just saw a bit on the news that the guy who runs the servo in Grantham is on the verge of closing his doors because of lack of business. This is not good news for him, and is one of the reasons for the ride,  but maybe we should think about ensuring that we don't roll into Grantham on fumes...just in case!!
