I'm out of this unfortunately. Other aspects of my life are getting in the way a little too often for my liking!

I hope those who are going have a great time.

 >:() Andrea & I will be missing this ride, too, as we'll be packing the ST in readiness for the Black Dog Ride Around Australia. We are leaving here in the middle of July and riding to Sydney for the start on 26 July.

Are any of you good people also going on the BDRAA?

There are "State" based rides being organised for riders not going all the way round, so it will be good if you can at least join us and make yourselves known to us, as we ride through your backyard.

This weekend is the maiden voyage for the ST1300+trailer. We're going up to Mt Fox (near Ingham, NQ) for the Stinger Rally. If you're local and get bored on Saturday, please join us.
http://www.mratownsville.org.au/2014-mt-fox-stinger-rally.php
We'll be meeting at the Yabulu servo and leaving at 9:00am Saturday.

Hey folks,

Are there many people from SE QLD planning on leaving on the Friday to head to Yeppoon?
There is a group of us including myself, Paul G, STroppy, Saaz, Greencan, CK and a mate of mine Hilary riding a CBF1000 that will be leaving Brisbane on Friday morning and heading to Gayndah for the first night.

About 440k's for the day travelling this route.

https://goo.gl/maps/Ewz2a

The following morning we will be continuing north through Biloela to Rockhampton and onto Yeppoon hopefully by mid afternoon on the Saturday.

About 450k's for the day travelling this route

We will be staying the Friday night at the Burnett Hotel in Gayndah. There are currently plenty of rooms still available if anyone is interested in tagging along with our group on Friday.

This is another way we are thinking, will work it out when we get closer, 700km a day on the bike is pretty easy for teela and I now, we have really worked on our breaks, and riding style, and making sure we enjoy the day that sort of thing.

Hi Streak, could I suggest that when you get to Dululu you continue straight past the pub and onto Mt Morgan and down the range.

It's a nicer ride and Mt Morgan is a very old town and you'll enjoy the ride down the range.

The route you show will take you up to Westwood and into Rocky via the Capricorn highway. It's a pretty boring route with not much to see and you'll cop a lot of mine traffic on the Capricorn.

Up to you, just a suggestion.

Hi Sabie,
That's the way we are planning to go on the second day (through Mt Morgan). It took me a little zooming in on Google maps to discover the road does continue through and is sealed all the way.  It looks like there is some interesting scenery also from what I saw from street view pics.

I agree the run through Westwood and along the Capricorn Hwy is a bit boring. I took that route home about 12 months ago on my way home from Mackay. Not much to see at all.

Cheers

I think that second route will be the more interesting one to take, Graham.  :thumbs

You'll have no trouble doing the ride on the ST with an early start and good planning for stops. I can still do a 1000+k day on my bikes (even the VFR). Backing them up day after day though would be harder. That's where the getting old bit comes into it  :fp

Thank Barry, time will be to short for some, but they do conduct tours of the old Gold Mine works.

A few things re Mt Morgan

- originally had a Rack Railway up the range (shut down when steam finished)
- fire station is the only station left with its original pole (not in use though)
- Mt Morgan had the highest rate of house fires in the country ( this was after the mine closed down .. Go figure)

I'm looking forward to seeing the place. It will be another new road for me heading across that way through Mt Morgan.  :runyay

There is another road for those with a little time up their sleeves that turns right off the Burnett Hwy just north of Eidsvold and heads across to Gin Gin via Mt Perry.

 https://goo.gl/maps/BDlNd

I rode this road for the first time at Easter. It's one of those country roads with a big WOW factor.  A pretty good surface, lots of undulating countryside, oodles of great sweeping bends and best of all ... next to no traffic!!  :thumb

It's one of those roads where you can let the ST loose a just enjoy being in the moment.  :thumbs

I'm hoping to come back along that road again on  the way home as I'm taking 2 days to go up and 2 or 3 to come home.

Hi Barry

No mate it's all dirt and pretty rough. There's a little bit of sealed road either side of Mt Perry. It a shame because the last time I was in Mt Perry they still had the hitching rails at the pub and the old rail tunnel is worth a look at. I wouldn't take my bike on this roads or my car unless it was a 4X4. The roads are very stoney.

The only sealed roads that connect the Burnett highway to the Bruce are ban ban springs - Biggenden Childers or Booyal

Biloela - Gladstone

Mt Morgan - Rocky

Just a side note, I grew up in Gayndah, my Dad owned the local Servo in the middle of town. I don't think there's a road around Gayndah that I haven't driven on with or without a licence....

Mate are you positive the road isn't sealed al the way from where you turn off at Dululu and head across to Rocky via Mt Morgan?  >:()

I'm kind of stunned because I zoomed in on street view yesterday on all the roads and it appears to be sealed all the way through?  :think1

Just want to make sure we are talking about the same piece of road?

https://goo.gl/maps/lsRkD

Cheers

B & M

ADDED LATER: Sorry Sabie I just reliased your talking about the Mt Perry Road!!!
You can do that road all the way from Gin Gin through Mt Perry and then onto Eidsvold all the way on bitumen  :thumbs
Been there and done it! Great piece of road.

This way is sealed all the way

If you take the second turn off to Mt Perry south of Monto the road through Mt Perry to Gin Gin is sealed all the way. Rode it on the SCA Poker Run a couple of years ago, was nice ride and the surface is pretty good.

This is the exciting way I'm getting to Yeppoon..

Roughly 1100kms each way..

I did the A3 Biloela - Eidsvold - Mt Perry a couple of months back on my way to Bundaberg and it's a good drive (definitely better on the ST!) but need I say that out in the country beware of stock and wildlife - even if they look like they're on the other side of the fence.

I think all the flood repair work is completed out that way now but there's always a bit of patching going on.  I think it's a great ride and am surprised it never figured in The Bear's 100 rides in the Hema motorcycle atlas.  Unfortunately I'm coming from Emerald so will be mixing it with the road trains on the Capricorn Highway.

Oh -  and watch out for Grey Nomads caravans and campers'- the A3 is a favourite alternative to the Bruce Highway.  They've all come out with the cooler weather.

Cheers

At this stage it may be a drive down to Yeppoon ... But I'll have the ST with me.

Our Daughters car has finally given up the ghost with (sounds Like) either a cracked head or blown gasket, either way it's toast. the value the mechanic is asking to fix it is the value of the car. So, Pauline and I have decided to permanently loan her my Mazda Bravo B2600 Utility. So that means a drive to the Sunshine Coast.

My plan is to Drive the Mazda down with my Baby Blue STead on the back and ride her home from Noosa. So It'll mean a stop over at Yeppoon on the way down.

Such is life,

The reality is we were about to sell her anyway as I don't have the funds to support 4 cars anymore. So she may as well be put to some use in Noosa.
