I have a GiPro Gear indicator that I am going to fit on the STeed. It's (supposedly) a simply plug and play and connects to the DLC Connector located under the rear seat ..... somewhere :-[
Installation
Find the RED, 4-pole male diagnostic connector (DLC), usually near the ECU
box. It may have a removable cap or may be partially covered by black tape.
ST1300 Pan European: under seat
I'm having a little trouble locating said connector. :|||| :||||
Can anyone shed any light on where exactly I might find this elusive connector

I had exactly the same problem. Believe me, it's there, where they say it is. It's under the cross member on the RHS at the rear. It only just pokes out of the harness, so can be difficult to locate and plug into. I just did a search, because I was sure someone posted a pic on here of the location. I know someone sent me the photo when I'd given up hope.
Trust that helps you find it before you go bonkers like me.
I just remembered, it was West Ozzie Glen who rescued me.
And I also recall removing the cap from the connector required the right technique. Fighting it doesn't work. It's one of those squeeze clips IIRC.

Hey Bob. Don't forget to post up some pics and also some pics of where you have mounted it. I am thinking of doing this myself. Good Luck with it. I hope it all goes well for you.

Nope, sorry. Only place markers in the picture frames, saying the person moved or deleted the photos.

Here are the photos of my install. I mounted mine high so it is easy to see with out moving your eyes from the road too much. You have to look hard for the connector it was all taped up from memory.

After installing there is a simple calibration procedure to follow.
This calibration allows the unit to tell the ratio of engine rpm to road speed for each gear and stores this so it can tell what gear you are in. As a result when engine is not connected to the back wheel (when the clutch is pulled in or when in neutral) the gear indication is not always correct.
Mine is an 08. There is a change in the type any the way they are fitted somewhere about the 07/08 model change.

Sure will Tony, the connector was taped under the main cables, and wedged down beside where the tools sit

Ok guys, is anybody able to assist with a more specific location of where this plug is hidden on the ST1300? I had read somewhere that it is secured and wrapped in front of the battery? Any assistance will definitely be appreciated.
I guess I got a little spoiled having a gear indicator on the previous ride and I really do miss having one.

It's exactly where shown in the first picture, but it's a fair cow unearthing it. NOT real near the battery- up and rearwards of it.
It's a lump in the taped up cable, behind that rear cross-member.
It has fooled all of us to varying degrees.

Once you think you have found it please see if you can get a good photo of it before taking the tape off so it can be added to this thread. Everybody has trouble finding it.

Ok, finally found it. It was a little bit further back on the harness than I expected it to be. It is actually located right at the end of the taped section of the harness ( the black tape that is wrapped around the wiring harness to hold all the wires together), just before the individual wires come out of the wrapped harness and go into the right hand brake light /blinker. Once you know it's there, you can actually see a bit of the red plug (or at least you could on mine). The wires for the harness are actually wrapped in the black tape and then this plug is taped individually to the main harness, so you can cut it free from the harness without actually disturbing the main harness.
Here are a few photo's of it in it's original location and after I pulled it out and pulled the cap off. Don't be confused by the additional wiring shown in my photo, as they are for the CB arial and the autocom system.
