Yes the road is not sealed and whilst the STrom was well suited to this standard of road (track), I have had the ST1300 on worse tracks - but never again.

Getting closer, only a ~70km ride, or 45km as the crow flies.  This road, err track (although the New Zealanders call it a road) featured in a Ride Report a while back.

If you guys can't guess this one, we might need to skip to the next one.

In the meantime, the ride / drive from Wanaka to the photo point is across the Crown Range, along the Crown Range Road (who wouda thunk that?).

Extract from the website: the Crown Range lies between Queenstown and Wanaka. The road over the range, known as the Crown Range Road, is the highest main road in New Zealand. It reaches an altitude of 1,121 metres, which does bring challenges. In winter, the road is often covered in snow and ice, making for very difficult driving conditions.  https://www.newzealand.com/au/feature/the-crown-range/

Considering the height of some of the NZ peaks relative to AUS peaks, the Crown Range ain't very high road at all, eg. the Great Alpine Road rises to an altitude of 1,840 m.
