Horrocks Pass
« on: July 25, 2015, 11:40:57 AM »
I took this on the way back from Port Augusta yesterday. Camera mounted between LH driving light and the screen. Video start about 1km before the pass and ends in Wilmington http://goo.gl/maps/X8tSV I'll reverse the ride down the pass on the way to the border next weekend.

Beautiful country, great road.

I'll reverse the ride down the pass on the way to the border next weekend.

Just play the clip backwards.     :grin

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Horrocks Pass is a a fantastic fang, after any long straight haul south from Alice Springs.   The other great road in the region is the 30 km Pichi Richi Pass heading from Stirling North to Quorn.

Thanks for the video Alan.  :thumb

I have another one to get and I have yet to go there since it's been re-opened after the bush fires and flooding that happened a couple years ago.

Thanks Alan, just ignoring and clicking on it worked. Nice neck if the woods where you're living.
Question: how do you attach the camera? Helmet or bike ? With Velcro ? What's best?

Always looking for a better way and as vibration free as possible. Currently I have a GoPro cam mount which uses a 3M sticky medium mounted on the plastic between the screen and LH driving light. I still get some vibration but I can live with it...for now.

I do have the helmet mount but I leave that for city/suburban use mainly.

What I'd like is the cam (or similar) that they use on the MOTOGP bikes as it's near perfect for stable vision.

What's best depends on the cam and its available mounting options.

The "Hat Trick" of rides in the region is from the A1 to Germein Gorge, through historic Melrose to Horrocks Pass and through Stirling North to Pichi Richi Pass and finishing at the old railway town of Quorn.   It's a wonderful 165km of some of the best riding in the State, and here it is....   https://goo.gl/maps/v5tUE

Nice video Alan - people have been known to get to one end of Horrock's Pass - turn around and do it again a few times before moving on.     ;-*

A nice little stretch of road and a great view of the Spencer Gulf is had on a clear day when heading to PA from the top.      :thumbs

Thanks also StinkyPete for the other road tips.      :thumbsup

Generally it takes us a few hours to ride it both ways as we go to PA every few months for shopping and mostly with trailer in tow.

There's an even better view of the gulf from Hancocks Lookout from the top of the ranges left of the pass https://goo.gl/maps/MiyzI I've taken other road bikes up there in the past but not sure how the ST would go and for me it'll be a warmer weather trip........lol

Here's the ride back down the pass taken on our way to the border ride. I left this one with just the sound from the cam and added a little of the view from Heather's little sport cam showing the trailer in tow.

Amazing, hardly any traffic, that road looks deserted!
