An old "Newbie"
« on: January 31, 2012, 08:32:03 PM »
Greetings all,
I have been on and off this site (and its various predecessors) for over 18 months now and have posted introductory profiles on at least two occassions in the past but, as I am a blank on our new you-beaut site (great work team!) I though I would fill in the blank and re-introduce myself. I am a late starter to biking having secured my bike license just 10 years ago when I was 57 (I don't need to do the sums). My first bike was a Kwakka 250 Super Sherpa (still got it and still love riding it). After a couple of years of commuting and bush bashing I got a hankering for a road bike and bought a 2000 model Bonneville which I also loved. When I retired from my 47 year stint at the same company they asked what I wanted so I said, a pair of leather panniers and a gel "King and Queen" seat for the Bonnie.(Which they duly presented me with  :thumbs After gradually coaxing my wife with short picnic and restaurant runs I got her to do a seven day trip on the back of the Bonnie. Luckily, she loved it so we did a few more tours on the Bonnie racking up 15k together over a couple of years. Although we loved the Bonnie, it just didn't cut it when you wanted to get out and around something in a hurry so we started looking around and stumbled on a one owner 2008 Model ST1300A with just 10k on the clock. Done deal and bye bye Bonnie  >:( That was just over 18 months ago now and we have racked up over 20k together on the ST and are heading off again for a three week run down through Tassie in a few days. In between this we also did one of those tour type rides in Italy on a BMWGS650 spending 7 days exploring Tuscany. We are both coming to the AGM in April and look forward to meeting some of the other members of this great group.
Cheers
Dick (and Ros) B

Nice to re-acquaint Dick.

Thanks for the kind words and your great intro. I'll certainly have a beer with you at the Nat Meet in April.       :beer

Good to see you two out there enjoying yourselves and totally NOT acting your age!  Well done!        :thumbsup

Welcome Dick (and Ros),

Act however you want. Age is only numbers anyway.

Have fun.
