Looking at the calendar and we have all these old farts in the club so here's a ride idea.
All you 64 year olds start saving and we'll go off and do the famed Route 66 in the year we turn 66.
Think abt it.

I'll be only turning 50 in 2015, but I currently feel 15 years older than that :-[ - so, I'd be interested in this. I haven't worked out whether to do an organised tour, rent, buy-ride-sell, etc. :think1

Renting seems to be practical and affordable in the States. Saves a lot of hassle, even if it works out a bit dearer. Selling when there is time pressure is daunting and shipping adds $1500 to the trip (plus serious amounts of paperwork you have to do), so you really need to want to give your bike an overseas holiday.

The couple next to me in the photo, Pete and Cathy, are from the Gold Coast.
A couple of weeks ago Theresa and I were relaxing in front of our cabin at the Daly WAters Caravan Park as part of my trip around Australia trip on the Goldwing when Peter and Cathy pulled into the cabin next to ours on their K1600GTL.

Nope, but looks like you might have to swallow hard and ride a Hardley! :eek
It's no joke getting used to riding on the RH side of the road. Try doing a RH turn at a T intersection when you're distracted and no one is coming on your right. Which lane do you instinctively head for? Yup. Scarey.

I have always found when there is plenty of traffic around it is easier to be on the correct side of the road in the US. It is when there is not traffic you tend to head for the wrong side of the road. The good part about riding on the right hand side of the road is when you wave at passing motor bikes you use your left hand. On my I tour there where 13 bikes, 12 Harleys and I was on a Victory.
I think the most dangerous part of travelling in countires where they drive on the RHS is as a pedestrian you look the wrong way as you step off the footpath onto the road.

Very happy for you that you scored a ride on a Victory. Would you ever be tempted to buy one? They're certainly a "looker".

Unfortunately you may have to cross the road tomget to the bike.
Some quirky things with the Victory but Mitch is very happy with his new model.
I found the clutch heavy, the gearbox hard to find neutral with the engine running (believe the gearboxs have been upgraded)
and at speed my legs wanted to lift off the floor boards. But it was comfortable and the motor certainly went well.

A few of us are planning on Canada 2015. I will not be riding a Harley or a Victory :-((( I plan on hiring a Goldwing (so it's nice and comfy for the missus on the back :wink1) probably in Seattle then heading up and across Canada and leaving the bike in Massachusets 4 or 5 weeks later.
If this doesn't come off then it'll be a long tour somewhere in Oz and she can ride her own bike.
(All the above is contingent on continued employment and finances of course..)

I've got a pal who bought two bikes in the US and now goes over once a year to ride. They lease the bikes back to a tour company to cover costs.
Will ask them abt the tour group or hire your own options.

Ros and I might be interested but unfortunately my horse has already bolted on the 66th birthday bit :'(). Does that disqualify me?. Depends on finances and other stuff but you never know your luck in a big city. Keep us in the loop.

Mates of mine did this tour in 2012 27 harley's 11 crapped out,bad for new hire bikes,still they had a great time.sorry have 20 years before i turn 66 as i was born the end of 66.

By the time Streak is 66 mootorbikes will be a thing of the past. And you be lucky to find half of R66.

Don't worry Streak. By the time this comes about, inflation, deflation and devaluation will put both of you in the 'new method of calculating age' bracket and you'll fit right in.
