Shiney and I are planning on taking an easy trip down, taking about 3 days to do the trip, and after last year, we are going to GLamp it instead.....no tents!

Day 1 Tuesday 520km

Toowoomba to Nambucca Heads
(Staying at the White Albatross Holiday Park)

Day 2 Wednesday 755km

Nambucca Heads to Yass
(Staying at the Yass Caravan Park)

Day 3 Thursday 694km

Yass to Ballarat
(Staying at BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields Holiday Park)

Google Map Link: http://goo.gl/maps/dWcp6

and out how we are going to get home to!

27th March Ballarat to Cootamundra 650km

Nice and Easy day to start the way home....

28th March Cootamundra to Port Macquarie (Via the Putty Road) 840km

Getting into the trip and taking the Putting Road for a bit of entertainment.

29th March Port Maquarie to Glen Inness (Via the Oxley Hwy, Thunderbolts Way, Waterfall Way & the Gwydir Hwy) 685km

well what can we say, it is going to be an awesome day..... :thumb

30th March Glen Inness to Brisbane/Toowoomba 350 odd km

Home.......

Looks like a good breakdown of the route.  At first glance Nambucca to Yass looked like a big day, but it's under 900 kays.  Taking it easy you'll have a pretty good run on the major highways.  Nambucca is south of the worst section of the Pacific Hwy.  Getting around Sydney will be the main pain.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

I have no definite plans as yet, but will probably take the opportunity to visit Mum in Colac as well as one of my sisters in Bendigo.  If I was doing that I would probably leave a few days before you got to Yass, but then I could do it after the rally.

Sydney is dead easy these days even if you take Pennant Hills Road.  Personally, I would cut in to Singleton, Putty Road, then to Bathurst and then to Oberon, Taralga, Crookwell then on to Gunning, Dalton then to Yass.  Depends on how much time you have.

I'm in the process of looking at my options at the moment. I'm leaving Atherton on the Monday morning at the moment (Mon 17th March)

A few options i'm thinking of
Atherton -> Inland to Charters Towers -> Cappella -> Camp the night (apparently there is good free camping at the showgrounds) (941km)
Cappella -> Emerald -> Toowoomba (Stay with a friend) (807km)
Toowoomba -> Dubbo area (Camp somewhere there) (720km)
Dubbo -> Ballarat with a possible overnight stop somewhere as I won't be booking my accommodation to start until the friday (920km)
Approx 3400km down

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Atherton,+Queensland,+Australia&daddr=Greenvale,+QLD,+Australia+to:Charters+Towers,+Queensland,+Australia+to:Capella,+Queensland,+Australia+to:Toowoomba,+Queensland,+Australia+to:Ballarat,+Victoria,+Australia&hl=en&ll=-31.559815,146.733398&spn=13.050826,26.784668&sll=-25.105497,146.865234&sspn=13.8615,26.784668&geocode=FYGH-P4d78mrCCnBtJ4LiwqCaTGgcSB_8e4ABA%3BFZUK3v4d1EykCCn7ikyx06EqajFwbSB_8e4ABA%3BFdANzv4d96e3CClPjZJg-V7UazFwlCB_8e4ABA%3BFea7n_4d2qfSCCmv5BNYuWzPazHQmSB_8e4ABA%3BFdZmW_4dQ6IOCSmPZeNIukSWazFQvyB_8e4ABA%3BFf7Swv0dMz2TCCl5GJMwVETRajEgt6AwpHkFBA&oq=ball&mra=ls&t=m&z=6

Other option was to do Toowoomba on my way home, and head straight down the inland.
Approx 3100km Down

I'm still thinking about the return ride.. All depends on how the trip down goes time wise...

I have the route to Ballarat sorted with an overnight stop near the border. Also doing a side trip to Wolseley and Serviceton  to check out a couple old rail towns and another detour through the Grampians before rejoining national 8 at Ararat for the rest of the trip.

Not sure about the return trip yet. Possibly via Pakenham, a suburb of Melbourne for an overnight stop to visit friends and returning home via the coast with an overnight stop.

Day 1 522 kms
Day 2 351 kms

Looks good Streak. You guys should come inland and we could meet up. For that matter, you could camp up at my place here in Gulargambone and we could head out together. Just a thought. Looking forward to the run. This is my route from here

I'm flying from Darwin to Melbourne a week before the rally for my uncle's birthday, will have a few days to kill before picking up my ST1300 from Garner's on the Friday so I'll be jumping on a plane to Launceston where a friend has promised to lend me a bike for a few days (and teach me how to corner).  I return the ST1300 on the Sunday before flying home to Darwin late that night......
Unfortunately I can't afford the time off work (or parenting) to ride both ways....

Just a bi of info for those riding through Melbourne. There is no tolls for bikes on the Monash, Westgate and Tullamarine freeways. If you die on Eastlink freeway you will have to pay. :thumbs :blk13

I'm guessing they take the toll out of your Estate.
