Hello, my name is Douglas
« on: September 08, 2012, 07:56:38 PM »
My name is Douglas and I have been riding and messing around with bikes for the last 42 years.  I have been retired for the last 3 years. However, I run a part time motorcycle rider training business. This business keeps me from getting board and provides me with the opportunity to pass on my many years of safe riding experience.

I have owned many different bikes over the years and currently have a stable of nine bikes.

Edit Value
In the order of purchase starting 1970

    1955 AJS M20 (still owned)
    1962 Honda CB72 (still owned)
    1967 Honda "Black Bomber" 450
Mick Andrews replica 250 OSSA (still owned)
    XS650 Yamaha
    XS750 yamaha
    XS850 Yamaha
    GTR1000 Kawasaki
    2006 Buell Ulysses (Still owned)
Honda ST1100P (still owned)
    XL 250 Honda (still owned)
    DL 650 Vstrom Suzuki
2004 Moto Guzzi 750 Breva (still owned)
    2012 CF-Moto Leeder 150 (still owned)
    Honda CX500 Special (still owned)

Do I have a favorite from this list? Well no each one had/has its merits and provides a different riding experience, I love them all. However, the ST1100 is my most ridden ride and the one I choose for those enjoyable longer runs and scooting around town.

I have made this bike my own by adding a few "farkles":

    MRA Varo Touring Screen
    Audiocom communications system
    TomTom Rider
    40 Channel CB
    AirHawk
    Merino sheep skin seat cover
    Custom GearSack Rack
    LED Driving Lights
    Audiovox CCS100 Cruise Control
    Flag Carrier
    Custom seat
    Tow Bar
    Park brake
    12V BMW power sockets
    "Quick Over" bike cover
    Laminar lip "Ears"
    Reflective Pin Striping

The most involved fitting procedure was definitely the Audiovox CCS100 Cruise Control and I posted my experience and modifications to the ST-Owners.com forum in this thread

http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?41707-ST1100-Audiovox-installation&highlight=

Scroll down to about the fifth post and you will find mine.

I look forward to meeting and riding with you in the near future. Do you have a regular coffee spot in Perth?
Regards

Welcome Douglas,

There is no regular coffee shop, as we are wide spread, from Gero to Albany and out to Toodyay. I* go for a coffee every Saturday at the Burns Beach Cafe with the Joondalup Ulysses mob.

Welcome to the zoo Douglas.

Did you read about our Maintenance Day tomorrow ?

If so, are you coming to it ? There will be about 10 to 15 of us there so you can meet the team, have a coffee and maybe learn or teach someone something.

If you want to come but not sure where it is, give me a ring 0419 166 355.

Hope to see you there,

Brock,

Burns Beach Cafe is one of my regular mid week coffee spots. I have been there on a Saturday with the Joondalup mob. I am a member of Ulysses Fremantle Branch.

Yes I will catch up with you all tomorrow for the maintenance day.

Welcome Douglas, hope you can make it tomorrow.
I am interested in what you did for your park brake.

Glen,

The park brake is from Tony Warrell, "Pendle Project Engineering". A wonderful addition if your are towing with the ST.

G'day Douglas - thanks for putting up a great intro post about yourself - most interesting.        :thumbsup

Looks like you've got/made yourself a real good long distance weapon there with all those farkles - I guess if you wanted to go interstate from Perth - you'd need 'em!          :-++

Watch out for those shifty Sandgropers though - they come across as a great bunch of fellows - but they are really...........  Poms, Kiwis, Crow Eaters etc ... which still equates to 'a great bunch of fellows!' (Actually, I'm a Sandgroper too!)        :whistle

I KNOW you'll enjoy your time out with OzSTOC Members, so make sure you post up pics and narratives of your rides for us all to enjoy too!

Welcome aboard mate!      :thumb

Cheers, Diesel

Diesel,
I am a rare breed. A true blue, dinky Di, borne and bred West Australian and a fifth generation Ausy. We are few and far between and often reserved for top breeding stock. :)
