Title: Billy Cart
Post by: StinkyPete on June 21, 2016, 10:15:15 AM
It's been cold, wet and windy, so it was time to get into the shed and make a Billy Cart for the grandchildren.    I made something similar for my kids, and they scared us witless with their downhill exploits, so now its time for the grandies to give their parents some payback.    :grin

(I know it's not a bike post, but it is red and fast...)

too sophisticated for I,m only used to a bit of board with an apple box nailed to it with a bit of rope on the front to steer with , but this looks excellent , hand brake and all.

That certainly is a flash billy cart....and with brakes  :thumbsup

I added brakes to mine as a kid and took the tip of my finger off when I squished it between the brake lever and a brick on a jump we made  :fp

Great work Pete.  Even got the colour right.  Plenty of hills around your place to see what the maximum speed is too.   Should be able to get to flinders Uni in less than 5 minutes  o:)

Magnificent piece of ginger-beering, Pete.
I still have the brakes off my billycart.  And the marks on my heels where the seat used to run up them as the friction of the feet on the ground took effect (I did uster wear sandshoes [pre-jogger era]).

I may just convert my unfinished trailer into a hill cart for my Grand Daughter.

Nice looking unit Pete, can only just imagine what you could do with a week of rain.
Needs some OzSTOC stickers and maybe some foot rests

Thanks for all the positive comments.....
I did consider using some pneumatic sack truck tyres, but settled for some second hand golf cart wheels, simply because they were cheap.  However, a future wheel upgrade may be considered if the grandsons (no granddaughters) survive.   :grin

Helmet, gloves and knee guards might help in the survival stakes.

Nice little addition / attachment for the cart? ... starts about 35 seconds into the clip. :hatwave

Very clever.  Just don't go too far from home on "drill power" or you'll be doing a lot of walking and pulling.   :-(((

Just carry a spare battery... if you go too far on one, the other will get you home again?

On that very subject, I have a quite good Ryobi drill for which the NiCad battery died.  I hated throwing away a good drill, but the Ryobi replacements are about the same price as a drill.  Then I found these guys:
http://www.amcell.com.au/ (http://www.amcell.com.au/)

and for less than half the price, incl P&H, I have a replacement with more amphours than the original.
So that's how you might acquire a spare for the billy cart (if you add that farkle).

It's a "Passenger Platform" so the child who isn't steering can also ride, and doesn't need to chuck a wobbly.   :grin
