Yep, you have to go down to Tennant Creek Mt Isa and Townsville to stay on the sealed roads. Or alternatively, you can slip up from Charters Towers through Greenvale and onto cairns.

But one important point, travel anticlockwise as it's shorter....... Why?..... Cause it's the inside lane....

Which route do you intend to take, the long or the short???

There is a difference, its not much but it is there..  About 1 or 2 ks I think.

Consider the time of the year and when it is safe to travel at night. In the top end "Wet " season can see you stuck for months.
