Do you have the GPS coordinates for that? I'll check it against our database at work.

TBH, it looks like a HF dipole antenna to me, which are directional.

Brook's NDB may well be the newer technology, but I know the NDBs at country airports I've used are the "clothesline" type antenna.

I'm seeing the "big thing" there as the massive paintings on standard silos.  I need to inflict pedantry equally so Stinky Pete doesn't feel persecuted.   :crackup

I haven't even bothered with the standard antenna...    Wot thuh

Going back to the first post the idea I think was to get the bike in a Big touristy type object. Whether the size of the object is important or not isn't stated though you have hinted at it in the second or third post. In general I think some of us just get something that is bigger than the bike as the post title implies.

You were correct, it was an NDB called Stonefield NDB (waypoint VILAD). It was inatalled 11th May 1981 decommissioned on 26 May 2016. It T56.

The previous NDB at the same location was installed 29 Sep 1976.

Also, it is an NDB with a Folded Flat Top antenna. This compensates for the 1/4 wavelength being around 30 metres.

Just realised that when looking at the map to post it elsewhere - just came back to change it. Anyway spelling isn't far off for either of them.

Here's a Big Bee that I stumbled across at Victor Harbor SA, which was out the front of the home of a bloke that does metal fabrication.
That brings my tally of Big Things to 97.   :grin

Big Tyre Swan - Lyndoch SA

Back in the 1960's these were all the rage, and there's plenty of instuctions on YouTube detailing how to make one.   I have know of this Big Swan for a while, so went for a ride to bag it today.  A polite knock on the door to let the home owners know what I was doing,  was answered by an old lady who invited me in.  The old chap that made it is now wheelchair bound, and he told me he made it around 20 years ago from a tractor tyre, and cut it using nothing more than a small kitchen pairing knife, lubricated with plain water.

It's wonderful how our motorcycles lead to making connections with people.   :thumbsup
The old guy will be thinking about that for days.  Then he'l be telling everyone he sees.    :beers
I like the way they have got the front yard nice and easy-to-maintain.  It would always look tidy.

A big apple in Balhannah, South Australia.  It's not on the wikipedia page of big things but it as big as the one on the list I passed in Acacia Ridge, Queensland last year.

Good stuff! Except that it’s not an ST, and it’s not even ‘in front’ of the big thing. Well not from where the camera sits anyhow.   :grin
