Thinking of going HID? Look here... $45.00
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:33:13 AM »
This link will only last until the auction ends - but this is pretty good value for great lighting.

Note slim ballasts.

Free is a reasonable price.  I have a spare HID harness for non-H4 replacements sitting in a draw somewhere.

White and one is the closest I've ever got to a Latte other than bumping into one of those with the jumper tied around their neck carrying a cardboard coffee cup :rofl :rofl

 Hi scarp
I got a set of those $45 HIDs and fitted them just before Blackheath, could only get one side to work.  >:(  That side worked perfectly, couldn't get the other side to work no matter what I tried.  :||||
So if you have any trouble or need a hand to fit them come around  home, I still have the HIDs here and at least one ballast and one globe works.  :grin

 No worries scarp
The bits are here if you need them, and it was good experience removing the tupperware, I replaced the standard globes with 60/55's and at least now I think I can change them if needed without  removing the plastic.  :grin

Yeah that is what I originally wanted to do but everyone said there would be no benefit how do you feel the 60/55s work for you any better?

Well I got my HID's, fitted them last week all was good till I took them out on the road.
I feel there is too much light for the lens it just reflected all over the place like a bloody big sparkler (& yes they were in the right way round) did not like them at all.
So yesterday I took them all back out again & was putting the Honda globes back in & dropped one.
So I bought some 60/55's cut off the tabs with my drremel fitted them & I'm quite happy with the result shoulda done that 1st up

I agree, I am not too impressed with HID's on my 1100.  They are a bit better since I removed the fitting rings and installed them without, but I reckon a decent set of bulbs would be as good or better.  I'll stick with them since they are in there now but should they fail I'll go back to standard bulbs.

I had to try them for myself though, so not a total waste !

I agree about the Shims I bought some & now I've got the globes in without I think they are a waste of time & un nessasary also they sit the globe that little bit further back anyway. So if anyone wants a pair even tho they don't need them they can have them

I think you are supposed to put the shims on the outside bit of the bulb to help hold it down properly, not under to push it out....

Could be wrong but..

THe Shims go on from over the globe end so it sits in the shape of the mount thats why even tho minimal it makes the globe sit further back

There really is only 1 way to put the shims on, they go on over the bulb and sit on the metal 'base'.  The shims are I guess 1mm thick, so this moves the bulb filament back in the headlight housing slightly - in my case more initially as the shims did not fit snug to the base of the bulb so maybe 2-3mm.

Well its a bit of a bugger that  you guys have had such a problem with your HID's.  I must say that after over 30000k's of long distance riding with HID headlights and HID spotties with a fair amount of night riding, I still find that they are so much better than the OEM or the blue tip bulbs.  I believe that there is a large support group of ST1100 riders overseas and other riders here in Australia that are using them without the issues you have had.

I have not had the problems that you have described (touch wood)

We all have our likes and dislikes, the standard type globe just does not give me the clarity for the night time riding I do, so I won't be taking mine out in a hurry.

It is good to hear that you now have the lights in that suit you  :thumbsup  and thanks for sharing your experiences with the rest of us  :thumbs

Scarp, Diesel had some problems with the reflectors being on upside down on his HID's.
This might be the same with yours??

Were your lights a different pattern to mine, if you can remember that far back?
MCL do a nice HID light with brackets, it's a shame about the dollar at this stage.

When are you leaving to go Numbating?
