...and this one seems to work if you open in in Google Maps.

Leave the highway and go through Rosewood, Grandchester and Laidley to get to Gatton and you'll have a much more enjoyable ride.  Beautiful country, quiet roads, pretty little towns.

Hi Biggles, I already suggested this to Skip...no response yet. I live in the area and you're right the country roads are a much 'nicer' ride. The highway is fast and BORING! OK for getting home after the ride  8)

O.K. Saturday the 17th of March it is. That will take the pressure off. And yeah Whizz, the 2nd one worked for me.
Hey Gerd, Royce, Barry & Marissa, hopefully you'll be able to make the 17th.
Diesel, Trevor, Biggles and anyone else from the north side joining in, I'll be at the BP Burpengary southbound at 7, ready for a 7.15 departure. So anyone wanting to join in along the Gateway Motorway as per last outing, just be on the exits in plenty of time ready to follow on behind as we pass. And Tipsy, we swing off onto the Logan Motorway at some stage. If in doubt, just head to Maccas at Goodna. Hopefully the exit is obvious as I haven't been that way for a while and with all that road works going on????

Early start Streak !!!
All please note Whizz' change to the route. I'm more than happy to stay off the highways but wasn't sure whether gravel was involved on other routes. Always glad to take suggestions from people with local knowledge. We will still stay with the 8.30 gathering at Maccas carpark, Goodna.
Thanks for the input Whizz and looking forward to meeting you.
Cheers.

OK mods (or someone useful)- how about changing the name of this thread to

SE Qld 17th March

just so no-one who pops in misses out by not reading the whole saga to its exciting end.

Yers.  That's pretty right.  The half-arsed fix only changed the title of my post at the top of this page.
Or is that a Sandy leg-pull?

Not your problem, Skip- you can't do it anyway- it's Secret Squirrel Stuff.
Which, as you rightly say, is why we pay huge retainers to "Curry Munchers" (Thai variety)   :rofl

Guys,
Sorry for not getting this info up before, but I've been flat on my back in bed with some dreadful throat infection for a week and a half and today is the first time I'm felt even half-way human enough to get on the roads.

Knowing what an unholy cluster-f**k the road works on the Ipswich Motorway have turned the stretch from the Logan Motorway junction through to Ipswich into, I thought I would take a recce (in the cage) to check out the access to the Goodna Macca's. I'm not sure if anyone has actually tried to get to that Maccas in the last month or so but the access isn't anything like it used to be. The turn-off to it now seems to be miles back towards Brisbane, and it you miss that turn off there is absolutely no chance of getting back to it, and it is impossible to get to it from the Ipswich side.

I would strongly suggest that either you guys pick somewhere on the eastern side of the road works to meet up, or wait until after you get through them before you consider stopping.

Also, the Warrego turn off doesn't look anything like it used to, and it to is about 1 or 2 kilometers earlier than it used to be. You need to make sure you are in the left hand lane early because it will sneak up on you really quickly...and GPS is useless until they finish and update the maps. Keep your eyes open!! The road there is now like being in a concrete rat-run, unpleasant but fast, and the majority of the tin-top drivers leave what little brains they usually use in the glove-box for that part of the trip! BE CAREFUL, they are all MAD!!!

Might I suggest that a good meeting place might be the Caltex at Blacksoil. It's only about 15 minutes up the Warrego but it is easy to spot and easy to get into and out of.

I'll meet up with you guys in Blacksoil regardless, it is next to impossible for me to get to Goodna anyway, and we will be turning off the freeway shortly after Blacksoil and onto quieter country roads.

I leave the decisions up to you Skip, after all it's your run, but I really wouldn't recommend trying to getting off the road to Goodna

 :eek  :hatwave

Cheers

Wow. And I thought this was going to be a lazy jaunt out to the country. I must admit, I haven't been out that way for a long time. As previously stated, I am more than happy to take advise from people with local knowledge. Once again, I'm not sure if there would be anywhere to meet before Maccas as we will be coming out on the Logan Motorway, which I think joins the Ipswich Motorway just prior to that point. Lets make the Caltex at Blacksoil our 'north meets south' meeting point at 8.45 - 9.00am with a ride-out time of 9.15.
Remember, the main reason for this ride was to lend some support to the local businesses at Grantham & Murphy's Creek. SO, leave some room for coffee and something fattening at Grantham AND some room for some fuel in the STeed. I know they will appreciate your support.
Maybe those that are coming, could you re-state your intention to do so, AND, that you understand the new meeting arrangements. Sorry for the stuffing around guys.
Regards.
